Project Steps We started by… – Researching what we would need – Purchasing what we would need Next… – We waited for supplies to arrive in the mail – We searched the school for boxes we could use When the supplies arrived… – We started spray painting the first box all of the colors Once painted… – We measured out the magnifying hole Then we cut the hole Then… – We glued the magnifying glass to the box – We tested the projector to make sure it worked Later… – We drew a line to where the phone’s front would have to be for the screen to be projected clearly – We glued the stands to pieces together Finally… – We glued pieces of wood together to make the stand stay in place – We glued the stand to the cardboard place holder

What We Expected To Learn How a magnifying glass magnifies backwards How to manage time to get the most work done How to learn from mistakes to make the next time easier How to make a good product that you would want

Actual Learning How a magnifying glass works How to work well as a team so everything gets done How to split up work How to get as much work done as possible How to learn from mistakes

How the projector works Our projector works because of the magnifying glass that is placed in the middle of the front of the box. The screen is magnified from the magnifying glass to the wall. But why do you have to place the screen upside down for the projector to work? It’s because a magnifying glass projects upside down. http://www.education.com/science-fair/article/upside/

Challenges Our first challenge was getting a box – This was a challenge because… The box had to be both tall and small It had to be bigger than a shoe box but smaller than a normal box – Finding a box like this was a challenge and took a couple of days Our second challenge was making the box look nice – The box we choose was kind of nasty so we had a lot of painting and duck taping to make the box look presentable Our third challenge was finding the prefect spot for the phone to be – For the projector to work good the image would have to be clear – We had to test and re-test to find the correct spot to put the stand so that the image would project clear

How We Solved Our Challenges Challenge one – Box challenge We solved this challenge by asking the janitor for all of his boxes… we then choose the box that would work the best Challenge two – Box quality challenge We solved this challenge by duct taping over the box before we spray painted so that everything was even Challenge three – Clear image challenge We solved this challenge by testing and re-testing so that we would not make a mistake and have to re-do the whole process

Project Success We concluded that this project was a SUCCESS – We concluded this because we met our two original goals, which are… 1.To complete two projectors one for Hannah and one for Tejal 2.To make the image clear and not blurry – We are confident that our two projectors are a success: because they are clear and are quality work

Participation Overall – We thought that we all worked well together and did our fair share of work Individual – Tejal Tejal’s job was to keep the project on task and make sure everything that we did was quality – Hannah Hannah’s job was to document our progress and make sure we were following the rubric – Amelia Amelia’s job was to build the projector and make sure everything was right and no mistakes were made

Personal Reflections on Contribution Hannah’s Reflection – I think that personally… I did a good job. I made sure that all of our documentations were done and that we stuck to our original plan. I contributed in many ways and because of all of our help we were able to be successful. Amelia’s Reflection – I think that personally… I worked very hard. I worked after school every Friday to post our final video so that we would get a grade. I was in charge of building the projectors and I feel that I worked very hard to make sure everything turned out as we hoped. Tejal’s Reflection – I think that personally… I worked super well to make sure the whole project worked. I worked hard to make sure that we all stayed on task and that we did a good job and didn’t slack off.

Personal Reflections on Effort Hannah’s Reflection – I think that personally… I put a lot of effort into this project. I spent time at home researching and buying stuff so that we could start our project. For overall effort I would give myself 100%. Amelia’s Reflection – I think that personally… I worked very hard and gave an amazing effort. I think this because I often worked out of school on finishing up things on the wiki. Because of this I would say that I gave a great effort. Tejal’s Reflection – I think that personally… I gave a very high/good effort. On a scale 1 to 10 I would give myself a 10 because I gave an amazing effort. I say this because I worked out of class on documentations. I also was always problem solving so that we could continue progressing on our projectors.

Time Effectiveness We managed our time pretty well – On a scale 1-10 we would give our time effectiveness a 7 because… At the beginning of the project we wasted a lot of time buying stuff and looking for a box If we had used our time better then, then we would get a 10 out of 10 because other than that we were very smart with our time

How we could have been more time effective? We could have done the following… – We could have found a box during our free time instead of during class or… Have gotten one right when we started – We could have bought supplies right away instead of during class – We could have cut our hole before painting so we wouldn’t have had to paint another coat

What We Could have Done Differently We could have… – Used play dough instead of buying a stand – Planed the whole process better so we would know what we would have to do in advance – Given ourselves more time to test the projector to make screen clearer

Project completion We completed our project and have given a great effort

Documentation We documented our progress every class – We included the following in our documentation Effort for the day Plan of what we are going to do What we actually did And videos and images (only on Friday for weekly video)

Our Comments/Attitudes Back You need more frequent video updates – We have now updated all of our videos so they are all current Is there a way to work on lighting for video recording (more light in room?) – Our most recent video was shot with a lot of lighting What advice do you have for people who wish to work on a similar project? – To make sure that they plan the whole thing before they just start building What is your estimation of your progress? – We have finished our projectors What challenges did you encounter and how did you deal them? – Check slide 6 and 7
