Each part of your design will involve you to work within one or more of the following math concepts. We will need to be able to show and talk about our work. Estimation Measurement AdditionGraphing SubtractionTechnology Multiplication HOME

You just received the most amazing news ever! A local art gallery saw all of your art work down at the local art fair. The gallery has offered you $30,000 for all your pieces. You have decided to use the money to design and furnish your bedroom. HOME

You have a fun job ahead of you ! You are allowed to spend as much of the $30,000 as you want on designing your DREAM BEDROOM! Your parents are waiting to see your presentation on your bedroom design. HOME

The first thing you should do is decide on a theme for your bedroom. There are many things to choose from to make your room complete. When you choose a theme, it will make it easier to buy your furnishings. HOME

Wall Height = 10 ft Walls A/C = 24 ft Walls B/D = 20 ft Windows 3 Total = 30 inches wide/42 inches high 24 ft 20 ft C B D 24 ftA HOME

Now it is time to get down to business! You have to start making your list of furnishings that you are going to put in your room. That’s right! You have to buy all your furniture, electronics, carpet, window blinds, lighting, bedding, and don’t forget the paint for the walls. In the next few slides, you will find many websites that will help you find all the things needed to make your room feel like you are living the dream. HOME

As you shop, you are going to write down the name and description of the items you are buying. This will be used later while building your presentation. While you write them down, be sure to write the full price of the item. We will use the full price to come up with an estimated price. Each night we shop, we will have to calculate the estimated total for the items in our room. Why would it be important for us to add our estimated price while we shop? Write about it.. HOME

Visit these sites to find things like your bed, desk, chairs, couches, and more! American Furniture IKEA Furniture Row Ashley Furniture HOME

Electronics are a must have to make any room the place to be. You will need a television, game system, and a computer for studying. I hope you remember everything you want. Best Buy Paul's TV Game Stop HOME

Don’t forget to cover your floor. Do you want the plush feel of carpet or the nice appearance hardwood or tile? Don’t forget do look back at your area worksheet to get the amount of floor coverage you will need. Who can stand the plain white walls ? Time to spice them up with color. Remember it takes 1 gallon per wall to assure good coverage. Empire Flooring Sherwin-Williams Home Depot Lowes HOME

Don’t forget the blinds. You may want to be able to block out the sun when you are watching movies on your big screen. While other times, you may want to let the sun shine through while you are studying for your next test. Check out the following sites to find all you need. Just Blinds Home Depot Lowes HOME

This area could be the best one yet. Here is where you need to look for your rooms style. You can find curtains, lights, bed spreads, posters, mirrors, ceiling fans, and more. Target Walmart Bed Bath & Beyond IKEA American Furniture Warehouse HOME

Now that your shopping is done, you will need to total up the actual prices of all your items. Keep the group (furniture, electronics,…) total prices separate for graphing purposes. Compare the original total to the estimated total. How was the two totals similar? Write about it. HOME

Now it is time to organize all your work into a presentation to show your parents. What does that mean? We need to find pictures and create a detail list of all the items going into your newly designed bedroom. After we complete our presentation, we need to create a blank slide to add our graphs to our presentation. We will use the Excel program to create a receipt book, that will verify our totals to be accurate. Excel will also allow us to build a few graphs, like bar graphs and pie charts.
