CMS Integration Peter Bridger, from Avon and Somerset Police – “Within two working days I had finished development of seven plug-ins that link into the various systems and live information available from our website. I'm proud to have extended our services onto digital TV in a way that it will automatically keep them up to date without any further time or effort. Development was very straight forwards and rewarding, I found it a nice break from working on more elaborate systems.”

Forget ‘TV & Mobile’ for a moment …. It’s an easy way for two computers to transact A plugin is a simple web application that ‘speaks’ XML rather than HTML You can forget about normal concerns of a web application like  Colours  Themes  Layouts ….. the DigiTV Starter Kit handles all of these for each Channel. You just have to decide on content, simple links and menu buttons A plugin can be developed and hosted by the Plugin Partner or DigiTV So what exactly is a Plugin?

Looking Local Service on TV or Mobile How does a plugin work? 3 rd Party Computer The plugin can be developed and hosted by the Plugin Partner or DigiTV Button selected XML ‘hello’ over HTTP Plugin ‘communicates’ with backend system (via SOAP, J/ODBC, …) XML response conforming to DigiTV standards (schema) New screen displayed DigiTV Starter Kit (Presentation) 3 rd Party Starter Kit Plugin (Workflow) 3 rd Party System (Transactions)

What benefits for Plugin Partners? Limited development costs Short development and implementation timescales You can offer aspects of your service via additional channels:  iDTV  Mobile  Kiosk Competitive edge over your competition Additional revenue stream Perception of innovation and forward thinking Public and industry awareness - previous Plugin Partners have been featured in:  National Newspapers  BBC TV and radio including video clips on the BBC website  ‘e-Gov publications’

How do I start? Do you provide Local Authorities with a customer service? It needs to be ‘suitable’ for TV and Mobile We provide:  Comprehensive documentation  Appropriate help and advice  Other useful resources, such as a Wiki and a developers’ forum  Test environments  QA Review You need to provide:  A developer  Limited documentation  Testers Contact me!
