2 Students will.. *create a brochure examinning one of the reasons the amendment in the Bill of Rights was added to the Constitution *restate the meaning of the amendment and include a current event or illustration that exemplifies the amendment assigned *create a comic strip showing life without the amendment, demonstrating knowledge of the amendment and its effects on our culture

3 Students analyze the political principles underlying the U.S Constitution and compare the enumerated and implied powers of the federal government.

4 Often called “the Father of the Constitution” Crafted the Bill of Rights that was debated and approved in 1791

5 Guarantee the rights of citizens of the United States To protect Americans from the abuses of the federal government Several states made this a condition for ratification

6 Five Basic Freedoms Speech Press Assemble Petition Religion

7 Specify protections for ordinary citizens against the abuse of government power

8 Guarantee fair treatment for people who are involved in legal actions Due process of law Right to a speedy trial Right to a trial by jury No cruel or unusual punishment

9 Deal with relationships among the federal government, the states, and the people

10 The Bill of Rights contain many of the rights that we think of as American freedoms
