HYBRID COURSES ~ WHAT A UNIQUE EXPERIENCE! By taking the on-line courses developed by the talented cyber school teachers and using them in a face to face classroom, you have what is called a hybrid course. The courses can support or be used as the actual course in a face to face classroom. The courses designed in cyber school can be used free of charge by the teaching staff of the Saskatoon Catholic System.

SOME SUGGESTED USES FOR HYBRID COURSES: Supporting your Face to Face teaching Use as your face to face course (must have access to a computer lab) Use it as resource for developing your face to face course Use the communication tools to enhance your face to face course communication. Use online testing as practice test for students.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL INFORMATION Since 2002 SCCS has been offering non-credit courses to elementary classes via the internet. The online material provided by SCCS for the elementary schools comes in two forms: Online classrooms Learning objects. Unlike independent high school classes, elementary homeroom teachers use the resources to enhance what happens in face to face classrooms Elementary resources utilize the online learning platform so it is possible to create a vibrant online learning environment for elementary school students.

HOW TO GET REGISTERED Students cannot register for these classrooms/resources as individuals; the on-line resources must be registered via their elementary homeroom teachers. The start and end date for the elementary resources are flexible and determined by the elementary homeroom teacher. Unlike the high school courses, there is no content expert attached to each of the on- line classrooms. The classrooms and resources have been developed and are maintained by SCCS. The elementary homeroom teachers use the resources to enhance what they are teaching in their classroom.

GRADE 7 & 8 MATH RESOURCES The grade 7/8 Mathematics resources are designed to be a supplemental resource for students to use, to help reinforce Math concepts. The resources are organized by strand and then by unit, with each unit placed parallel to the objectives in the curriculum They are easy to find and easy to use in addition to what is being taught in class. Each unit contains a short lesson, as well as ten interactive questions to help reinforce the math objectives. Some of the features include moveable protractors, click and drag objects for studying similarity and congruency, interactive time zone questions etc.

GRADE 4 TECHNOLOGY LESSONS This course is essentially a secure online elementary school classroom. 14 LEARNING COMMUNITIES Cyber School has developed various Online Learning Communities. The Learning Communities serve as a collection of useful resources for grade levels from kindergarten to grade 12 and encompass all subjects; from Physical Education to Aboriginal/First Nations Education. The resources are for both online uses as well as printable copies for classroom use.

Are Learning Communities Safe ? The Learning Communities are housed in the Web CT secure platform. Teachers log into their respective Learning Community. Once logged into the community teachers have access to e-mail, chat rooms and bulletin boards. Teachers are then able to communicate with other colleagues who teach at the same level. Not only are teachers able to communicate and collaborate but they also have the opportunity to use any unit or resource found in the Learning Community.
