4300 Drum Chipper Pre-Start Check List

2 Pre-Start Check List The Pre-Start Check List is a walk-around procedure designed to maximize the steps at each location on the machine. START HERE The procedures start at the catwalk, then move to the controls area, around the front of the machine to the non-drive side, and continue around the rear.

3 Pre-Start Check List As you perform the Pre-Start Check List, inspect the machine and check for: Fluid leaks Damaged or loose fasteners Worn belts Frayed hoses Fire hazards Any tools or materials that need to be cleared from work area

4 Pre-Start Check List Unfold the ladder to catwalk
Release pin on ladder Unfold the ladder to catwalk Use the air compressor for cleaning

5 Pre-Start Check List Check the hydraulic oil filter indicator

6 Pre-Start Check List Check hydraulic fluid level Check coolant level
Hydraulic fluid sight gauge Coolant sight gauge Water tank view Check hydraulic fluid level Check coolant level Check water tank level

7 Pre-Start Check List Check the air cleaner indicators
Air filter; outer element, near ladder Indicator viewed from engine area, radiator side Check the air cleaner indicators Clean outer element

8 Pre-Start Check List Check fire extinguisher is charged and in place
E-Stop and fire extinguisher, near ladder Charge indicator Check fire extinguisher is charged and in place Check E-Stop is pulled out

9 Pre-Start Check List Turn Disconnect Switches ON
Disconnect Switches located under drive belt guard Control Power Disconnect Switch Master Battery Disconnect Switch Turn Disconnect Switches ON

10 Pre-Start Check List Check fuel level: Unlock control cabinet
Fuel gauge Check fuel level: Unlock control cabinet Turn on control panel Go to Main page on display

11 Pre-Start Check List Refill fluids as necessary
Hydraulic fluid fill Fuel fill Water tank fill Air compressor fuel fill Refill fluids as necessary Shut down and lockout Disconnect Switches before refilling

12 Pre-Start Check List Unlock the water pump sprayer cabinet
(for access to fire suppression equipment)

13 Pre-Start Check List On the non-drive side, check:
Air filter canister E-Stop On the non-drive side, check: E-Stop is pulled out Air filter outer element; clean

14 Pre-Start Check List Check engine oil level

15 Pre-Start Check List Latches Check the discharge area access door to ensure it is secure

16 Pre-Start Check List Move to the chipper hood access
Water Can Move to the chipper hood access - Check the water can is full and in place

17 Pre-Start Check List Open the chipper hood Unbolt the hood
4 Bolts to remove Safety Pin Open the chipper hood Unbolt the hood Insert the safety pin

18 Pre-Start Check List Check the condition of knives; reverse or replace as necessary

19 Pre-Start Check List Close and secure the chipper hood

20 Pre-Start Check List Turn Disconnect Switches ON and start the engine
Engine switch Turn Disconnect Switches ON and start the engine

21 Pre-Start Check List Secure compression roll in raised position:
C’ROLL UP Safety pin C’ROLL DOWN Secure compression roll in raised position: Raise (C’ROLL UP) Insert safety pins Lower (C’ROLL DOWN) onto safety pins

22 Pre-Start Check List Shut down engine and lock out Disconnect Switches

23 Pre-Start Check List Check anvil for wear and clearance Anvil
Anvil/knife clearance Check anvil for wear and clearance

24 Pre-Start Check List Turn Disconnect Switches ON and start the engine

25 Pre-Start Check List To lower compression roll: Raise (C’ROLL UP)
C’ROLL DOWN To lower compression roll: Raise (C’ROLL UP) Remove safety pins Lower (C’ROLL DOWN)

26 Pre-Start Check List Continue to Start Up procedures
