1 5 th Grade Clubs 2011-2012

2 4-H Club Description: 4-H has three primary program initiatives: citizenship; healthy living; and science, engineering and technology. Youth learn leadership, citizenship and life skills through a variety of projects with topics such as outdoor skills, aerospace, animal science, nutrition, forestry, and community service. All activities take place during school. Requirements: Students must maintain a B average in Conduct. Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $15 ( includes dues and T-shirt ) Max # of Students: 100 Sponsors: Miller/ Alleman/ Black/ Cook

3 Around the World Description: Around the World Club will focus on the cultures and geography of different countries of the world and how to travel there. Requirements: Have a desire to learn more about what cultures make up our world. Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $10 ( for arts and crafts, food items ) Max # of Students: 30 Sponsors: Tortorich/ Badkoobeh

4 Art Club Description: Promotes and encourages the development of art skills and talents in all students. Requirements: This club is open for membership to all students regardless of art background. Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $15 Max # of Students: 30 Sponsors: Alello/ Smith/ Wells

5 Beta Club Description: This club is committed to recognizing and promoting high academic achievement, rewarding and nurturing worthy character, fostering leadership skills and encouraging service to others. Requirements: By invitation only. Grades: 5 th Membership Fee: TBD Sponsors: Adolph/ Girlinghouse

6 The Bookworm Club Description: For students who have a passion for reading. Each month, club members will be given a book to read, which will be discussed at the next months meeting. We will also participate in crafts/activities that are related to the books we are reading each month. Requirements: Students must have a B or better in Conduct for each nine weeks. Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $7( This will cover the costs of books that will be purchased and distributed to club members throughout the year. ) Max # of Students: 30 Sponsors: K. 7 The Boomwhackers Club Description: A musical club for students that doesnt require any particular musical talent or experience. Students will learn to play songs using Boomwhacker instruments. Requirements: None Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: None Max # of Students: 30 Sponsors: Marquez

8 Chess Club Description: Designed for students who enjoy the game of chess as well as students who are interested in learning the game of chess. Requirements: Open to beginners and experienced players Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: None Max # of Students: 25 Sponsors: Bertrand

9 C.O.P. – Children of Poetry Description: Students will read, write/create funny and rhythmic poetry. Students will learn to write poetry that includes the following forms: haiku, acrostic, concrete, limerick, free verse, couplet, and cinquain. Requirements: Writers of all styles and levels are welcome. Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $15 ( includes t-shirt and membership fee ) Max # of Students: 25 Sponsors: Parker/ Harrison

10 CMED Copper Mill Emerging Doctors Description: This club will cover topics including first aid, minor emergencies, and medical issues on a level appropriate for young students. Requirements: Students must have outstanding conduct and an interest in entering the medical field. Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $10 Max # students: 25 Sponsors: Tyler/ Compton

11 Digital Scrapbooking Description: Students will learn how to upload & edit photos while creating a digital scrapbook. At the conclusion of the school year, students will order their individually created book. Requirements: Students must have a digital camera to use from home. Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: ~$25 ( end of the year scrapbook ) Max # of Students: 25 Sponsors: Bellue and Cunningham

12 Family History Club Description: The objective of the club is to encourage students to interact with family members for the purpose of learning more about their family. Members will learn to build a family tree and learn how to document family stories. Requirements: Be willing and able to contact family members, ask questions, and make a record of answers. Grade(s): 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $5 Max # of Students: 30 Sponsors: Potts/ Graham

13 Fleur de Feet Description: To further the skills, knowledge, and understanding of the sport of jump rope with new team members. Requirements: Members must have tried out for the team, made it, and meet all the PBIS standards. Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: None…the team dues include the club membership. 14 Gardening Club Description: We are going to help take care of the grounds at CMES. In this club, we will be looking at where we could beautify the grounds here at CMES. We will also be in charge of weeding, watering and planting on campus. Requirements: None Grades: 5 th Membership Fee: $5 Max # of Students: 30 Sponsors: Conly

15 Girls Club Description: This club will focus on empowering young girls through workshops which develop self esteem, peer relations and community involvement. Requirements: None Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: TBD Max # of students: 30 Sponsors: Yancey/ Tate

16 Healthy Heart Club Description: Students will be challenged to improve their overall cardiovascular fitness through an individualized run/walk program preparing students to compete in a 5k run/walk race. Requirements: Students must have good attendance, good grades (A/B average), good behavior (no referrals). Grades: 5 th Membership Fee: $15 Max # of Students: 30

17 Inspiring Publishers Description: The club will provide students with learning experiences to promote creative graphic skills. Students will be exposed to creating set designs, props, publishing programs and advertising. Requirements: None Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $10 Max # of Students: 25 Sponsors: Bethely/ P. Jones

18 Money Matters Description: Students will learn the importance of saving money, how different saving and investment options work and how to manage and balance checking accounts. Requirements: None Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $5 Max # of Students: 30 Sponsors: Leewright/ Washington

20 Out of the Crayon Box: An Arts & Crafts Club Description: Inspiring kids to express themselves and think outside of the box… one craft at a time. Fun and fabulous arts and crafts masterpieces that ANY student can create. Requirements: Must love all things crafty! Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $20 ( supplies ) Max # of Students: 30 Sponsors: Caston/ Signorino

21 Racing with Readers Description: Students will be involved in activities that encourage reading and taking AR test. We will have some oral group reading to reinforce comprehension and hands-on activities to reinforce literature. 22 Science in Action Description: (S.I.A.) The goal of this club is to spark an interest in science and give students an opportunity outside of the classroom to engage in learning. Students will be exposed to all aspects of science from Robotics to Microbiology. Requirements: Students must maintain a B average in Conduct. 23 Snip and Sew Description: Students will learn how to do basic sewing and mending using needle and thread. Requirements: None Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $5 Max # of students: 25 Sponsors: Taylor/ Amphion

24 Speed Stacking Description: Students will learn to stack and compete in school tournaments. Requirements: None Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $12 ( for T-Shirts ) Max # of students: 30 Sponsors: Stephens

25 Technology Club Description: Students will learn to use various programs: MS Power Point, MS Photo Story, etc. Students will build and create websites and learn about Copyright & Fair Use. Requirements: None Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $10 ( Flash Drive ) Max # of Students: 25 Sponsors: Martin

26 Young Thespians Club Description: The Young Thespians Drama Club will expose students to different aspects of theater including impromptu skits, costume design, set design, and props. Requirements: None Grades: 4 th and 5 th Membership Fee: $10 Max # of Students: 25 Sponsors: Stepter/ Fontenot
