The session will conclude with discussion of next steps leading to on-going professional development, building professional learning communities and a whole-school-shared vision of quality teaching and learning. At The Session Participants Will…. Gain insight and a shared understanding of the common language needed to describe elements of teacher effectiveness, based on evidence of student learning (just the facts!) Through a series of interactive tasks, learn to differentiate when a task or event is descriptive or evaluative and use that increased ability as a tool for providing non-judgemental, ongoing, actionable feedback aimed at improving student learning Develop strategies and tools for creating authentic conversation and professional communication based on goals set through mutual understanding; focused on actionable feedback and ongoing support before and after classroom visits and observations Practice and deepen understanding of descriptive note-taking as a tool for analyzing the task, the teachers questions/actions and the students responses as evidenced in an observed video-recorded lesson to provide evidence for their decisions and feedback Use these descriptive notes, reflect on and align a domain-specific rubric with student learning evidence. This activity will guide participants to better understand how to objectively rate teacher proficiency and guide instructional best practices, regardless of the framework used Gain understanding of the process for ensuring inter-ratability among building administrators and supervisors, creating a shared vision of what and how best to analyze teacher effectiveness
