4. Receive
Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
From the Gospel according to Matthew, Chapter 5, verse 18

5. Engage
In many parts of the world people have Festivals of light. During Advent many Christians use candles to mark the season.
Two other festivals around this time of year are the Jewish Festival called Hanukkah and the Hindu Festival of Diwali.

Why do you think that light is such an important symbol of hope?
How could you live today without electricity?
Why do you think Jesus Christ is sometimes called the Light of the World??
Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?”
Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair.
Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student.
Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections.
Activity suggestion … Find out as much as you can about Advent, Hanukkah and Diwali. Design your own Festival of Light. How would you hold such a festival in your local area?
