4. Receive
The souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be a disaster, and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace.
A reading from the book of Wisdom, Chapter 3

5. Engage
All Souls Day is a special day when Christians remember those who have died.
Since its foundation, Christians have recognised that the Church, the assembled people of God, is at its most perfect when it recognises its unity in God's redeeming love with all who have said, who say now, and who will say in the fullness of time, 'Jesus is Lord'.

Share any traditions that you know about All Souls Day.
Why do you think people remember those who have died?
Do we have a soul? (Discuss)
Discussion techniques - Go back to the Bible passage ask “How does the theme link with the Bible passage?”
Discuss the question in pairs for 30 seconds then invite a response from each pair.
Use quick-fire answers e.g. throw a soft bean bag / toy to a student, when they answer they throw it back and you quickly throw to another student.
Simplify the question - Invite quick one-word answers, write them on the board, then reflect on the answers – see connections.
Activity suggestion … Write a private prayer, giving thanks for someone who is important to you. Keep the prayer safe and maybe say it quietly later in the day.
