Philips Defibrillator Training 2010

FRX (stand alone AED) Used in: –Public response –Out patient sites (some…not all) –ICU transport New features: –Semi-automated –Pediatric key –Information button

MRX: Monitor/defibrillator Cardiac Monitor AED Manual Defibrillator Synchronized Cardioversion Transcutaneous Pacing

First: Safety Functions Alarms –Red: Lethal rhythms and extreme rates –Yellow: Rates, PVC, Pacer—failure to capture Alarm Display –Auditory –Visual

Alarm Pauses Auditory Pause Alarms Pause Caution: Totally disarms alarms—both auditory and visual

‘Disarm’ or ‘Discharge’ Energy Load Very different! –Energy adjusts To Disarm: –Push the ‘disarm button’ –30 second delay discharge feature

Pad Selection Hands Free Defibrillation—vast majority Adult Pediatric Neonate (Conmed) Exceptions… Paddles: CCU and Cardiac Cath Internal Paddles: OR, TCV, PICU, ED

Energy Technology New Energy Level Adult Dose: 150 Joules NO escalation Pediatric: Unchanged Internal: Max 50 joules

AED Function Place therapy pads onto the patient Select “AED” on Therapy Knob Follow prompts Change to Manual Mode… VERY EASY!!!

Cardiac Monitoring 3-Lead Capable ECG Cable ECG leads Select “monitor” on Therapy Knob –Lead Selection –ECG Size

Manual Defibrillation Place therapy pads onto the patient Select “Adult dose 150 joules” or alternate energy levels on Therapy Knob Charge…note SHORT charge time Shock

Synchronized Cardioversion Place therapy pads onto the patient Push “SYNC” Button Will see… –Flashing Green ‘Sync’ –R wave markers Select Energy Charge Shock…hold button until discharged

Transcutaneous Pacing Connect 3-lead AND therapy pads Select “Pacer” on the therapy dial Fixed vs. Demand You will see R wave markers Select rate Select Start Pacing Dial mA until capture is achieved

Pacing Views

Daily Device Checks Document on the Emergency Equipment Check list a minimum of every 24 hrs Check pads—package integrity, dates, number of pads, and size of pads Paddles—(only certain units) present, clean with gel pads for use Cables-3-lead cable and therapy cable present, clean and fully functional Sufficient paper in the device Device clean and dust free

Every Monday Perform the test load or test shock using the ‘test load adaptor’ found with your machine Remember…. DO NOT store with the ‘test load’ adaptor pre-connected
