2. The European Union was formally established when the Maastricht Treaty was put into force on November ,and in 1995 Austria, Finland and Sweden joined the newly established EU.
WHEN WAS IT CREATED?

3. The European Union (EU) is an economic and political union of 27 member states that are located in Europe.
The EU operates through a system of supranational institutions and intergovernmental negotiated decisions by the member states.
The EU has developed a single market through a standardized system of laws that apply in all member states.
WHAT DOES IT DO?

4. A monetary union, the eurozone, was established in 1999 and is composed of 17 member states.
In 2002, euro notes and coins replaced national currencies in 12 of the member states.
Since then, the eurozone has been adopted by 17 countries.

The European Union is composed of 27 sovereign member states: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
