Springboard units COMP Journals Springboard is our new curriculum that we will be using this year. Each student will receive a workbook. The best news is, YOU MAY WRITE IN IT. Students will leave their Springboards in Senior 105. If we assign homework from it, then the page may be ripped out to be turned in. Springboard is written/created by the College Board, which means it prepares students for other College Board assessments, including AP classes and/or the SAT. It is an incredible resource. We will complete journals occasionally throughout each unit. You should write these in your composition book and keep your composition book yourself. The journals will vary by topic, and are to be used as additional practice on important skills. These will be collected without advance notice throughout the school year. So, don’t skip the journal and tell yourself you’ll do it later—you won’t have the chance, and you won’t know when it’s due. Units of study Unit 1 In Pursuit of Truth Unit 2 The Art of Persuasion Unit 3 The American Dream GRADE BREAKDOWN Office Hours are available without an appointment. Mondays from 3:30-4 Thursdays from 3:30-4 This syllabus is subject to change at the discretion of the teacher, administration or any other factors affecting our learning in Senior 105. We look forward to a wonderful year of reading, writing, discussion and hard work leading to growth! Please feel free to come to us with any concerns at any time.

Late Work Absentee Policy Late work will be accepted for summative assessments. Every day the work is late will count off a letter grade. Example: Student A turns in summative assessment 3 days after original due date.. The student receives a 70% if everything else on the paper is 100% correct. Losing a letter grade a day can be very harmful to your grade! Homework and formatives not turned in on due date will be given a 0 in the gradebook. * YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. Yes, We missed you, too! It is the student’s responsibility to check the class blog to find any assignments missed. Come to Office Hours if you need help with the work or have trouble learning independently. Technology/ BYOD Students will participate in a BYOD classroom when they are in Senior 105. BYOD stands for “bring your own device”. I encourage students to bring their devices for academic assignments. Students are expected to abide by all school and district digital safety rules and guidelines. Failure to do so will result in said student being banned from technology while in my classroom. Unless given permission verbally or with the BYOD sign on the whiteboard, all devices are PUT AWAY (out of sight). Also, please make sure your cell phone is on silent during school hours. plagiarism Cheating Plagiarism is the taking ideas and writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) 3. including a source but failing to cite it 4. copying an author’s words, structure, phrasing, ideas, etc. and passing them off as one’s own Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. * The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected. The student will be given a zero for that particular test or assignment. (This could be huge on a summative assignment.) Assignments that have been plagiarized or cheated upon will never be able to be reassessed. I, ________________________________________, have read and understand the rules and expectations for class. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to contact my teacher if I have any questions or concerns. I know that this syllabus, assignments, calendars, and resources are available to me via blog or at any time. I know that assignments can be submitted digitally at any time and that printer/computer/flash drive issues are not an excuse for late work.
