2 Learning Outcomes On completion of this unit you should:
Know about the opportunities for work-based experience in sport Be able to prepare for a work-based experience in sport Be able to undertake a work-based experience in sport Be able to review a work-based experience in sport

3 Task 1 Carry out research to find out about four realistic job roles that you would be interested in Examine a range of sports providers and the different job roles in each before you make your decision Prepare a report that describes (P1), explains (M1) and evaluates (D1) the opportunities you have found to take part in an appropriate work-based experience in sport

5 What sector is the provider in (Public/Private/Voluntary)
What is the structure of the provider (local/regional/national?) How is the provider funded? What job types does the provider employ? What qualifications are required? What skills are required? (Technical & Personal) Are there any legal regulations that need to be adhered to? What are the job roles & responsibilities of the position that you have identified? What (if any) progression opportunities exist?

10 Task 2 Select one of your chosen job roles and apply for a work placement. Set yourself targets for achieving a placement of your choice. To do this you will need to: Write a detailed action plan using SMART targets Write a CV Write a letter of application Write a personal statement - what makes you suitable for a work experience placement with your chosen provider? You will also need to identify and justify the targets that you have set and give suggestions as to how they may be achieved

21 Placement Diary – Task 3 You must complete a daily diary
Your diary should include details of tasks and events Your diary should offer a personal account of your thoughts and feelings about your performance Highlight where you have performed particularly well and aspects that you would like to improve You should also try to collect some photos etc of your placement

22 On Placement While on work experience, remember you are an ambassador for Calderdale College This experience will give you the opportunity to find out what this particular type of work is like, and hopefully, will help you decide on the job you would like to do when you leave college

23 On Placement You are expected to be at work on time each morning so it is important to plan your transport arrangements carefully. Make sure you have sufficient money for fares each day Punctuality is also important after morning, lunch and afternoon breaks Check with the employer as to a suitable dress standard for the job. Whatever job you are doing, you should be neat and tidy Don’t be shy about taking your lunch to work, it is expensive to buy each day. You will not be paid during your work experience Have you informed the employer about any medical conditions that they should be aware of? Do you have contact numbers in case of emergency (college and parent)?

24 On Placement Become involved with what you are doing - be willing and cheerful Ask questions if you do not understand Listen carefully to instructions If you do make a mistake, don’t be afraid to ask for help Always be polite and courteous to people with whom you are working Be careful if you are using machines - be aware of danger and keep your mind on your work Be realistic about your expectations of the work. Don’t expect to be the boss on your first day!

25 What to do if… You are sick or running late
Contact your employer and the College a.s.a.p. ( ) and explain the circumstances. Ensure you speak to one of your tutors - Justin Magner, Tim Smart or Jade Curry You have an accident at work Report it to the College ( ) and your employer immediately

26 Tutor Visit If possible, a tutor will visit you during your work experience placement You will be able to discuss your job and any problems you may have The tutor will also speak with your employer. If you are in need of any advice before your tutor has visited you, contact Jade on The tutor will bring an evaluation sheet for the employer to complete

27 Evaluation – Task 4 You should provide a written review of your work experience placement identifying and explaining strengths and any areas for improvement You should identify and justify future targets using an action plan to develop your skills and experience for a career with your chosen provider
