4 The Basic Principles The Basic Principles provide a set of behaviors for putting shared values into practice to develop a strong network of relationships at every level. Focus on the situation, issue, or behaviour, not on the person. Maintain the self-confidence and self-esteem of others. Maintain constructive relationships. Take initiative to make things better. Lead by example. Think beyond the moment. As leaders we need to know how BP can help you lead and manage:: Will help you solve problems more efficiently, make better decisions and avoid emotional outbursts Contributing fully is easier in an environment where people can express themselves without fear or judgment. Getting things accomplished depends of a diverse network of trusted colleagues. Those who are willing to help generate new thinking & solutions To gain credibility and trust you must be willing to demonstrate your readiness to take risk for the greater purpose, risk failure, own your mistakes You are setting the standard for behaviours, actions, and attitudes Consider the impact beyond today and beyond yourself. Set compelling goals, make thoughtful plans and behave ethically.

1. Acknowledge individuals have unique and particular needs in the learning and work environment. 2. Respect each individual’s right to express and present themselves relative to their religion, culture, ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, physical and mental ability. 3. Promote inclusivity by reasonably adjusting procedures, activities and physical environments. 4. Focus on the capability of the individual without assumptions or labels. 5. Be inclusive in all forms of communication. 6. Serve all with sensitivity, respect and fairness.

8 Academic Leadership Program
Faculty Workshops: In conjunction with the Office of Academic Leadership, the Office of Organizational and Human Development, designs workshops which are offered to Department Chairs, Associate Chairs and Associate Deans on specific topics. The workshops entail interactive sessions and provide opportunity for development, learning, and thought provoking discussion. Orientation for New Chairs - Two full days Compliance: Legal, Policy, and Ethical Tenure & Promotion Time & Meeting Management Conflict Resolution Performance Appraisals – Faculty & Staff Managing Faculty Leaves
