4 SUN Civil Society Efforts in 2016 Our contributions to SUN 2.0 SUN Civil Society High Level Objectives 1.Civil society drives / contributes to national and global advocacy efforts 2.Civil Society plays a key role in strengthening accountability of all stakeholders 3.SUN CSN is an enabling learning network supporting effective CSAs 4.CSAs are supported to effectively shape and contribute to multi-stakeholder multi-sectoral implementation of scaling up nutrition plans 5.Civil Society inspires a more effective SUN Movement in addressing country relevant drivers and an adaptive CSN in an evolving global context Cross-cutting: SUN principles of engagement embraced by all / gender driven approaches throughout / engagement with all stakeholders / direct citizen participation Catalysts for change | March 20164

5 Civil society’s role in SUN 2.0 Key contributions to the SUN 2.0 road map Civil Society will seek to improve synergies with other stakeholders, the SMS and networks throughout these efforts. Civil society will play a pivotal role in achieving the objectives set out in the SUN road map for 2016- 2020, in particular by: supporting at country / regional / local level continuous improvements in policy and budget cycle management – budget advocacy, mapping and off-budget tracking (CAP 1) forging ties with a wide range of stakeholders to form alliances and coalitions to find synergies and strengthen advocacy and impact – an essential contributor to social mobilisation, advocacy, communications and behaviour change efforts (CAP 2 & 3) strengthening in-country use of data from multiple sources for better decision making and accountability – social accountability & participatory monitoring and evaluation (CAP 1 & SUN Movement Common Results & Accountability Framework) raising the strategic positioning of nutrition, and securing and sustaining political, institutional and financial commitments – advocacy and sustainability (CAP 2) Catalysts for change | March 20165

6 SUN CSN in SUN 2.0 Key contributions to the SUN 2.0 road map – The SUN CSN will Develop and strengthen as a learning and enabling network supported by a platform supporting the improved effectiveness of CSAs and other network members – resulting in increased impact (Added Value Services) – Investing in the regional approach & accelerating progress through Learning routes – Strengthening CSA sustainability, impact tracking and systematisation of experiences Play a key coordinating role ensuring that the network (including INGOs) speaks with one voice, aligns with agreed SUN objectives and messages and leverages support to SUN efforts at country and regional levels. (Added Value Services) Continue advocating for civil society to actively participates in multi-stakeholder efforts. (CAP 2) Play a lead role in helping CSAs secure sustainable funding and will leverage access to the support, resources and technical advice CSAs need to be effective. (CAP 1 & Added Value Services) Facilitate and lead the capturing and sharing of learning across the network, and support the capacity strengthening of CSAs and member CSOs as well as seek to improve synergies with other stakeholders, the SMS and networks throughout these efforts. 7 CSAs in SUN 2.0 Key contributions to the SUN 2.0 road map Civil society alliances will continue to coordinate civil society contributions to national efforts and to play a crucial ‘watchdog’ role in holding governments to account for their commitments, in particular by: ensuring the communities most affected by malnutrition participate and their needs are reflected in plans, programmes and policies (SUN Movement Common Results & Accountability Framework) independently monitoring and tracking nutrition spend as well as the implementation of national plans at local level to ensure we leave no one behind and that commitments are met (CAP 1) leading by example and ‘walk the talk of accountability’ (SUN Movement Common Results & Accountability Framework) bringing together and improving synergies with diverse stakeholders and coordinating nutrition advocacy, campaigns and communications (CAP 3) ensuring nutrition is a national priority and remains one through political cycles and changes of government (CAP 2) nutrition skills are strengthened from government to civil society and from front line workers all the way to the household level (CAP 3) Catalysts for change | March 20167
