3 Course Structure During the course you will complete 2 units. The controlled assessment for Unit 2 will take place in the Spring term and you will have 15 hours to complete it. 11 Activity 1 What is Computer Science? Discuss with the person sat next to you. You have 5 minutes to write a definition of Computer Science. “Computer Science is the study of the principles and the use of computers.”

12 Activity 2 What career opportunities can Computer Science lead to? You have 5 minutes to list in your exercise book as many careers as you can find related to Computer Science. You now have 10 minutes to write a brief explanation next to each career. Look on job search websites.HINT

13 Activity 3 What higher education courses can Computer Science lead to? You have 10 minutes to list in your exercise book as many university and college courses as you can find related to Computer Science. You now have 5 minutes to write a summary of what you learn on each of the courses. Look on university websites.HINT

14 Activity 4 Computer Science Careers and Courses Choose 3 careers and 3 courses that you have found out about. You are going to profile each of the careers and courses you have chosen. Network Engineer Career Example Software Engineering Course Example -No degree necessary -Must hold Cisco certification -Minimum two years in a similar role -Oversee network operations (expand..) -£25,000 - £80,000 -AAB at A level including Computer Science or Mathematics -Two mandatory modules and one option module each year -3 years or 4 year sandwich course -Lancaster University Careers: Job title, suitable educational requirements, experience, typical daily tasks and salary range. Courses: Qualification name, entry requirements, course of study, duration of course, university that offers the course.

15 Extension Task Edexcel GCSE Computer Science (2013 specification) Find out in more depth what you will be studying during the duration of this GCSE course. Think about what each of the five C1 theory subtopics involve. What is expected of you during the C2 practical programming assignment? Find out more about the Python Programming language.
