MATHEMATICS INSTRUCTION IN New York City Public Schools The new math programs ensure that all students learn the core math skills and higher level concepts they will need to go on to college or to find good jobs in today’s market. These math programs are based on New York State achievement standards.

2. The math programs will: Provide students with a strong foundation in basic math skills. Help students learn to solve complex math problems. Apply math concepts to situations they face in their daily lives.
