3 What is course made up of?

4 Part 1:Computer science GCSE(OCR) Theory exam- Unit A451: Computer systems and programming 1 hour 30 minutes Written paper 80 marks Worth 40% of your final grade

5 Part 2:Computer science GCSE(OCR) Unit A452 Practical investigation Controlled assessment An investigative task Approx 20 hours 45 marks 30% of the qualification Candidates carry out a practical investigation of a topic

6 Part 3:Computer science GCSE(OCR) Unit A453 Programming project Controlled assessment Approx 20 hours 45 marks 30% of the qualification Candidates create solutions to computing tasks from a set of options supplied by OCR.

7 Computer Science -Overview We will learn about computers and how they work We will take apart and put back together computers We will learn how to program computers using scratch,python,C++,javascript,php. We will create a game using KUDO that you can save on a memory stick and play on your xbox You will complete one theory exam You will learn how to test computer systems security You will complete one controlled assessment You will complete a programming project

9 Words that describe this option Tough-you will be expected to learn how to code and I will take you through various languages such as python,scratch,PHP,Javascript,C++ etc Tough-You will have over 50 hours of practice to learn how to code but you must also do coding away from the class Tough-You will learn theory about things such as arrays and Binary and quantum cryptography!

10 Mr Hall’s Expectations When in computer science class be cool!! -Remember you are the coolest in your year for selecting this class When you come into class don’t log in until told Always remember your coding/theory book Don’t distract others when they are practicing their coding-You need to concentrate!They also need to concentrate! Please sit in the seating plan which you have been told-ie Boy /Girl Don’t distract your wonderful teacher during classtime! Don’t play games –unless it is one you have designed! Complete your work you are set Complete your homework Don’t be afraid to get coding wrong Don’t feel intimidated by computing terminology Write up your notes as you go along so that you have revision notes

11 Remember If you are finding this tough it is normal very tough option It is a very tough option and some of you may not stay the course You will need to concentrate and let others concentrate

12 Before we start Please look at the guide document for accessing online resources for computer science. Please don’t lose this. Today we are going to start theory for a451 I need you to write your name on your book and my name Your theory notes go in front of your exercise book. You must bring your exercise book with you each lesson As I run through the overview powerpoint you will need to make notes
