WHAT ARE MOBILE DEVICES? A mobile device is basically any handheld computer. It is designed to be extremely portable, often fitting in the palm of your hand or in your pocket. EXAMPLE: Palmtop PDA - Personal digital assistant Cell phone Pocket PC Laptop Smartphone Tablet computer Smart watch Bluetooth headset Pager

WHY USE MOBILE DEVICES? Portable: Because of their small size and weight, these devices are extremely mobile. Instant on: You don't have to wait for lengthy boot times. Wireless communications: Technology advancements and add-ons will keep you current whenever you are in a coverage area. Infrared beaming: You can transfer data without cables or external services.

WHY USE MOBILE DEVICES? Cont...... One device: With one device you can manage your personal information, organize your work life, and entertain yourself. Desktop synchronization: You can synch a variety of handheld information with a PC. Wi-Fi Technology: All over internet access.

FUNCTIONALITY  INTERNET: Nowadays almost every mobile device provides internet access through networks like 2G, 3G, 4G or using wi-fi technology.

FUNCTIONALITY cont....  VOICE FUNCTION: This is basic traditional functionality of mobile phones that allow one user to talk to another. It is getting updated day by day by add on features like video calling, conferrencing, voice activated dialling etc.

FUNCTIONALITY cont...  DATA FUNCTION: Almost all mobile devices allow data transfer from one device to another. It can be through blue-tooth technology, USB ports, internet, text messages, videos etc.

FUNCTIONALITY cont....  TOUCH FUNCTION: Touch screen technology is the direct manipulation type gesture base technology, it manipulates digital world inside a screen without the use of command line commands. Most of the mobile devices are equipped with this technology.

FUNCTIONALITY cont...  CAMERA FUNCTION: Some of the mobile devices carries the camera functionality that allows the user to click pictures or take videos. Like Smart Phones, Tablets, Laptops, Digital Cameras, etc

DEPENDENCIES  WIRELESS TECHNOLOGY: As the name mobile devices itself describes that this is something that can be taken from one place to another. The most important fact is wireless technology. This technology makes the device mobile and allows the user to use it portably.

DEPENDENCIES cont.....  Microprocessor: It is a computer processor that incorporates the functions of a computer's central processing unit (CPU) on a single integrated circuit (IC),or at most a few integrated circuits. The microprocessor is a multipurpose, programmable device that accepts digital data as input, processes it according to instructions stored in its memory, and provides results as output. It is an example of sequential digital logic, as it has internal memory. Microprocessors operate on numbers and symbols represented in the binary numeral system.

DEPENDENCIES cont.....  Random-access memory (RAM) is a form of computer data storage. A random-access memory device allows data items to be accessed (read or written) in almost the same amount of time irrespective of the physical location of data inside the memory. RAM is normally associated with volatile types of memory where stored information is lost if power is removed.

DEPENDENCIES cont.....  BATTERY: Every mobile device has a battery, which allows you to use the device when it's not plugged in. Whenever you plug in the device the battery recharges. Another benefit of having a battery is that it can provide backup power to the device if the power goes out.

DEPENDENCIES cont...  An operating system (OS): It is system software that manages computer hardware and software resources and provides common services for computer programs. The operating system is an essential component of the system software in a computer system. Application programs usually require an operating system to function.

Your devices in 2018: The Future of Computing (advance technology) FLEXIBLE SCREEN: flexible display is a display which is flexible in nature; differentiable from the more prevalent traditional flat screen displays used in most electronics devices. In the recent years there has been a growing interest from numerous consumer electronics manufacturers to apply this display technology in e-readers, mobile phones and other consumer electronics.

ADVANCE TECHNOLOGY cont... EYE CONTROL: By 2018, using your eyes to play games on your PC or waving your hand to navigate the desktop will be mainstream ways to interact. In terms of everyday use, a device such as the Rex could enable you to browse through emails by simply looking up and down your inbox, or to open apps by staring at a particular Live Tile in the Windows 8 interface.

ADVANCE TECHNOLOGY cont... USB Type-C: (introduced by apple) USB Type-C will allow the port to read a device whichever way up its plugged in, which should save plenty of frustration. With the new power delivery specification set to be introduced more broadly alongside USB Type-C, even your laptop can be charged via a USB connection. This is the way the new MacBook will be charged and it wouldn’t be surprising to see other manufacturers follow suit.
