2  You will need a small copybook. You will be given a poly pocket to keep a record of your classwork and your exam results.  Ensure your name is on the front of the pocket. These are kept in the class folder provided in D02.  This folder will keep a record of the following: ◦ Additional notes on Modules ◦ Record of work ◦ Copy of diagnostic and Cert test results ◦ Outline of Module Completion dates  These records will also be needed for your TY portfolio / interview at the end of TY.  Communication will be sent home to update your parents/guardians on your progress. 3  The ECDL certification is a globally recognised qualification.  It is undertaken in over 148 countries in 41 languages to over 12 million candidates.  It is an extremely valuable asset to any CV. What is ECDL? 333 Kinsale Community School

4  Useful Skill: ◦ Useful base of knowledge that will benefit you in TY for reports & project work, your Leaving Cert (e.g. LCVP, coursework etc), college (e.g. assignments) or at work (letters, emails etc).  Job / College Requirement: ◦ ECDL certification is a requirement to join the Gardaí / PSNI, employment with ESB as well as an entry requirement in many courses e.g. Business courses in UCC. 5  You will complete 7 Modules in the ECDL Programme.  The Modules are: 1.Online Collaboration 2.Presentations (PowerPoint) 3.Online Essentials 4.Word Processing (Word) 5.Computer Essentials 6.Spreadsheets (Excel) 7.IT Security What Modules Will I study? 555 Kinsale Community School

8  You should record your diagnostic and cert test results in your school journal.  You will find this on Page 69 of your journal.  Your ECDL tutor will also sign the record sheet to log your progress.  Your parents/guardians should also initial this record sheet. 9  You will have an online learning account with ICS skills. https://cms.ics-skills.net//learner/  You will log in to this account, where you can access your e-learning for each module.  You are expected to complete additional study at home every week (recommended 1 - 2 hours) to ensure you are on target as you will be involved in many other activities/outings etc.  You must have Office 2010 installed on your computer at home. 12  All lessons are provided online and you will be responsible for your own learning.  You will also have access to a Module Summary & Quick Reference guide to help you in class. These booklets MUST NOT be removed from D02. Booklets must be returned to the press at the end of class.  Your tutor Ms Brosnan / Ms Mullaney will provide help, guidance and support with areas you may find difficult. 14  Once you have completed your e-learning, you can take a “Diagnostic Test”.  This is like a pre-exam which will revise what you studied in the entire module.  If you have achieved over 70% you should be ready (with a little revision first) to take the official exam which is called a “Cert Test”.  To prepare for your Cert Test, you can print out the results of your pre-test and study questions you answered incorrectly. 15  You must achieve 75% or over to pass the Cert Test.  Your tutor must log you in to take the official exam.  Strict exam conditions apply. No phones, books, materials or communicating with others during the exam or your exam may be cancelled.  Each exam takes 45 minutes to complete and it will end automatically once your time is up.  You will get the result of your exam immediately on-screen. 17  TY is a very busy year as you may be involved in various outings/events etc so it is essential that you attend every ECDL class and also complete e-learning at home.  There will be deadlines in place to complete various modules. If you are falling behind or not performing, your teacher will be in contact with your year head and also parents/guardians immediately.  Cert tests can be repeated if necessary.  You must fill out your progress sheet before the end of every class. 19  This Module enables you to demonstrate the ability to use a word processing application to accomplish everyday tasks associated with creating, formatting and finishing small-sized word processing documents such as letters and other everyday documents. 1.Word Processing 1919 Kinsale Community School

20  In this Module you will learn about hardware, software and malware.  It teaches essential concepts and skills about the use of devices, file creation and management, networks and data security. 2. Computer Essentials 2020 Kinsale Community School

21  This Module will enable you to demonstrate competence in using presentation tools on a computer.  You will be able to accomplish tasks such as creating, formatting, modifying and preparing presentations using different slide layout for display and printed distribution. 3. 22  This Module covers security and safety on the web, the concepts of online communities, communications and email.  It covers essentials you need for going online, including web browsing, effective search engine use, online communication and email. 4. 23  This Module will enable you to understand the concept of spreadsheets and to demonstrate the ability to use a spreadsheet application.  You will understand and be able to accomplish tasks associated with developing, formatting, modifying and using a spreadsheet.  You will also understand using standard formulas and functions, and create and format graphs or charts. 5. 25  In this Module you will learn about the world of cloud-storage, shared online documents and social networking.  You will learn about online calendars, social media, online meetings & online learning environments.  You will learn about the tools, theories and technologies behind online collaboration along with the risks. 7.
