SCENE The UK big gig scene is thriving but the increase in rent prices and the cost of running smaller venues means that bands have limited spaces in which to get spotted and get a recording contract, therefore jeopardising the future of rock music. "The frequency with which smaller venues are closing is scary," said Krissi Murison, editor of the music magazine NME. "There's the Charlotte in Leicester, TJ's in Newport, I could go on and on. It feels like not a week goes past without more closing." Cardiff, Bristol, Belfast, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester as well as London have all seen small venues go under in the past year. "Big venue live music is thriving, but, due to smaller venues closing, in a few years' time we will no longer be producing the bands who have cut their teeth in the smaller venues," said Murison. Evolve will be a new output for acts to get noticed and keep the scene alive, helping not only the acts but the future of this genre.

3. COVERS Evolve will take a differing approach each way to the covers not only changing styles but appealing to all audiences to create variety. Magazines such as Q, NME and classic rock have recurring logo themes and positioning which is a feature that I would like to use whilst changing everything else. This will help create an identity by having one establishing feature. Rock magazines are known for being diverse and sometimes controversial and I intend to keep this theme alive through evolve.

4. CLOTHING Rock styles are extremely diverse and cant be pinned down to specific, recurring styles so here is a variety of styles throughout rock music.

5. RACE AND GENDER Rock music is predominantly dominated by white males but other races and genders are becoming more prominent. Evolve will include bands of all bands and genders and expose these bands or artists trying to breakthrough into the music industry. The evolution of music relies on other influences and therefore the commonalitites amongst this genre must change. Examples of these bands are cherry bomb, paramore, korn and skindred. Each of these bands represent a different area of rock music and increase the number of listeners.
