1. Geometry & Algebra 2

2. Currently Geometry:  Regular Geometry and Geometry Support Classes are offered. Algebra 2:  Core Algebra 2 and Regular Algebra 2 are offered.

3. Current Research  The results of current research have been compiled into one study.  The study examined offering “Enriched Classes Ability Grouped”.  “Enriched” refers to curriculum that goes deeper and includes more topics beyond the normal curriculum.  “Ability Grouped” refers to students being assigned to courses based upon their mathematical ability.  Result: A.33 academic gain for advanced students results from offering enriched courses.

4. Proposal  Offering an advanced level of Geometry.  Offering an advanced level of Algebra 2.

5. What would these classes look like?  Accelerated pacing.  More in depth examination of the current curriculum.  More student exploration and less direct instruction.  Curriculum would expand beyond state and national standards.  Provide challenging problems to the students on both homework and assessments.  Main focus would be on preparing the students to be successful in college math courses.
