3 The Orders Process HA Commander has to: HReceive Orders himself. HExtract from them what concerns his own command. HEstimate how best to achieve the mission. HPrepare orders for subordinates. HIssue orders.

4 ISSUING ORDERS HThe following points should be remembered: HProtection - Post a sentry HDistractions - Vehicles and Radios HConcealment - Lights etc HComfort - Shelter, Warmth HBrevity - Vulnerability

5 Do’s HMake your orders concise. HGive subordinates a thorough understanding of your intentions. HExplain the outline concept of your immediate commander. HIntegrate all subordinate elements in co- ordinated action. HAllow subordinates the maximum freedom of action.

6 Don’ts HTry to give detailed instructions covering every possible contingency. HSlavishly use every heading in the boxes. They are provided as a reminder of what you MIGHT need to cover.

7 Receiving Orders HBefore receiving orders you should: HStudy the Warning Order. Relate it to the Map and Ground if possible. HIssue Warning Order. HArrive at the Cdrs O Group early: H Study Maps, Air Photos, mark own maps. HYou may be able to supplement your Warning Order and send it with runner.
