2 Greater Portland Construction Partnership Origins of the GPCP… Founded September 2002 in Portland, OR Common interest in the success of the construction industry in the Portland area Membership comprised of companies and organizations from five major groups: –Owners, Construction Managers/General Contractors (CM/GC), Trade Contractors (Subcontractors), Building Trade Unions, and Insurers

7 Greater Portland Construction Partnership Construction Injury Statistics Construction employs 6% of the US workforce… accounts for 20% of workplace fatalities Fatalities increasing… –1027 (1992-1995 Avg) –1170 (1996-2000 Avg) –1193 (2001-2005 Avg)… Worst years: 2001 (1265) & 2004 (1234) Average five deaths each workday on US construction sites…even with current OSHA regulations and inspections
