After the break the children have come back ready to learn and this week we have been preparing for World Maths Day which takes place on the 6 th March. The children all have a unique username and password in their reading log. This enables them to log- on (at school and if possble at home ) to www.worldeducationgames.com www.worldeducationgames.com Here they can compete securely in live maths quizzes with other school children from countries all around the world. By doing this they will begin to practise their mental maths skills in the lead up to World Maths Day. If your child does have access to a computer at home please encourage them! This week we have started our new topic on ‘Castles.’ Our focus text is a non fiction book called Castles and we have used it to help us learn the names of parts of a castle. We then used these words to make lists and labels. Miss Clark read us 4 stories set in castles and we found out which was the most popular by collecting and presenting information in lists, tables, pictograms and blockgraphs.

2 School Meals In view of recent media coverage around contaminated meat we can confirm that all our fresh meat products are supplied by Pioneer using locally sourced meat. Head lice We have had a complaint from a parent regarding a child who has head lice in school. We are no longer allowed to send home letters regarding head lice so therefore it is extremely important that you check your child(rens) hair regularly and make sure you treat immediately. Children often notice others with head lice and this can cause embarrassment and upset. Multi-cultural week – 4 th -8 th March We will be having a special week of activities for multi-cultural week. All the pupils will be engaged with online maths, science and english activities, competing against pupils from around the world. Monday- Special art morning for all pupils Tuesday- World Literacy Day! Wednesday- World Maths Day ! Thursday- World Book Day- please send your child to school dressed as a character from a children’s book. We will be having two ‘listen to a story’ sessions through the day, when the children can choose which story to listen to, being read by a member of staff. Fri – Food tasting morning – you are welcome to come and join the pupils in the hall as they taste foods from around the world prepared by members of staff. - Multi-cultural activity afternoon- Children will be able to choose two activities from a range of crafts, sports and games from around the world. We hope that multi-cultural week will encourage the children to embrace being part of an international community. To enjoy exploring the differences between cultures and to recognise similarities and commonality between communities too. Nursery If anyone has a hostess trolley that they don’t want the nursery would be pleased to have it.
