Literacy : Stories from around the world The penguin who wanted to find out – story from the artic. Non fiction books about the places the explorers visited Non fiction texts about hot and cold countries Listening to visitors and asking questions. Report writing as ‘explorers’ Instruction writing Throughout year 1 your child will be working on their letter and number formation. Please encourage this at home too! Mathematics : Tally charts on our favourite foods Venn diagrams Time – times of the day, days of the week. Reading and writing numbers in numerals and words. Collecting and using data *continue to build upon and consolidate reception objectives. TOPIC: History: Significant explorers through time. Science: Materials and their properties Geography : 7 continents and 5 oceans and hot and cold countries DT : Design and make a hot air balloon Art : Aboriginal art – patterns Collage around the world RE: Harvest-how can we help those who do not have a good harvest? Christmas- why the birth of Jesus was such good news? LEARNING GUIDE FOR YEAR 1 PE: Real PE- core pe skills – balance and agility Dance – from around the world TERRIFIC THURSDAY! During Thursday afternoons, children will be taking part in cross curricular cooking, music, ICT, art, fine motor skills, and outdoor learning sessions. It’s always lots of fun! Holidays – for details see school newsletters. THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOUR CHILD AT HOME Counting with them in every day contexts e.g. counting number of silver cars down the street. Hearing them read at least 3 times a week and practising their words/and or sounds. Ensure they get to bed on time. Practising their number and letter formations with them at home. Please make sure that your child arrives at school on time - 8.55am. Remember to ask if you have any queries.
