Jefferson Lab Site Update January 2013 Bryan Hess bhess@jlab.org

Voice over IP Transition Cisco System is now the lab’s primary phone system –PSTN, 911, FTS all transitioned Legacy Avaya system connected via tie trunks Avaya to be turned off before Oct 1, 2013 Remaining challenges –Legacy ISDN video –Upgrade to Call Manager version 9 –Cisco “grey market” supply chain –911 mis-dials

Two Growth Trends Infiniband for experimental and theoretical physics –Customers tolerate more downtime, fewer features –Infiniband expanding to experimental halls –10 Gigabit growth is modest Ethernet scope expanding –Desktops, laptops, handheld devices, HVAC, doors, video cameras, key watchers, gates for cars, robots in radiation areas, voip phones, video conferences, wifi RFID tags/property tracking… –This is driving demand for greater uptime/better power

Network Management/ New Software Automated Cyber security host blocking system now integrated into our management system MAC and IP blocks now done quickly on all hardware –Building switches and wireless –rotuers –Palo Alto firewall Mutiple blocker sources: sensors, federated model feeds, and manual blocks

Coming Up Utility Infrastructure Modernization (UIM) – Campus fiber ring. Closely coordinated with Facilities Management. New network hub in renovated Building to leverage better power, more fiber IPv6 expansion heavily dependent on replacement of the Cisco Firewall Service modules Commissioning of the new 12GeV machine and fourth experimental hall
