3 Daily Procedures Upon entering our class QUIETLY please sit down and begin working on your daily warm-up (beginning) activity. This will usually take 5-7 minutes. Warm-ups are usually review. At times, it may be a thinking activity that I want you to respond to. Complete your warm-up using complete sentences—ALWAYS!! This is also the time to make sure your pencils have been sharpened. We always go over the warm-up as a class; however, do NOT wait until we go over the warm-up to complete it. Doing so will result in a ZERO. Warm- up & binder checks come periodically and unannounced. 4 On the board below the warm-up activity,… Every day I write out what we will be learning and doing in class. This is referred to as our content and language objectives. Content Objective-- our SOL standard Language Objective-- activities that students will do to learn the SOL standard (write, speak, listen, perform etc) Today’s Date, the SOL standard & the Content Objective should go at the top of every new page. Number your pages for table of contents at the beginning of your notebook. (we will set that up in a few minutes)

5 Go to the first clean page. On the very top line, please write the following: 9/11/14 SOL 4a-g Traits of Good Citizens Now: write out the definition I will give for citizen.

6 Citizen (ciudadno)—write out A person with certain rights and duties under a government and who, by birth or by choice, owes allegiance (loyalty) to that government Una person con derechos y obligaciones en virtud de un gobierno y que por nacimiento o por elección debe lealtad a ese gobierno.

7 We will now talk about the traits of good citizens. Traits are the qualities or behaviors we want people to have. Draw a line down your paper as such----------  There should be more space on the right than left. Label the left, TRAITS. Label the right, DEFINITIONS.

8 Trustworthiness & Honesty 1. Have you ever been called trustworthy? (confiable) Keeping your word. 2. Why is honesty (honestidad) important? Being truthful

9 3. Courtesy Are you courteous? (cortesia) Do you show polite behavior? Think pair-share: With your face-partner come up with 2 examples of being courteous. Be ready to share.

10 4. Respect for the rights of others Allowing others to live their lives without harm

11 5. Responsibility (responsabilidad) Do you have any responsibilities? Taking care of something or someone Ex: Home work, sibling etc

12 6. Accountability Oops, you broke something at home Did you accept the consequences for what you did? Or did you blame your younger sibling? Answer for your actions

13 7. Self Reliance (autosuficiencia) What does it mean to be self reliant? Can you do things on your own without asking for help?

14 8. Respect for the law (respeto a la ley) Why do we have laws? Obey/follow rules Think-pair-share: With your shoulder partner, come up with at least 2 examples of citizens respecting the law. Be ready to share.

15 9. Patriotism (patriotismo) What is Patriotism? What images come to mind? Love and respect for one’s country

16 10. Participation in schools and/ or local community 11. Participating in elections as an informed voter

17 Was Dr. King a good citizen? What traits did he exhibit (show) that made him a good citizen? In your group, come up with as many examples as possible. Be ready to share with the class. 18 What Makes a Good Citizen Skit Working in groups, you will be create and present a skit of citizens having/practicing good traits (4). One must be respect for the rights of others. Each skit will last approximately 2-3 minutes. Everyone must have a speaking role. Props may be used. Make them yourself!! You will be graded on effort, content, and creativity.

19 Exit Ticket (clean half sheet of paper) Write out each scenario below. Which trait is being described? 1. Wesley opens the door for the old man entering Macy’s. __________________ 2. Sharon has been serving in the Air Force for 10 years. _____________________
