9 ANDY WARHOL’S START Andrew Warhol was born in 1928* in Forest City, Pennsylvania. In 1949 he graduated from the Carnegie Institute of Technology and worked odd jobs before moving to New York City in 1952.

10 ANDY WARHOL’S START Andy started his career in advertising and commercial art.

11 ANDY’S EARLY WORKS His early work included huge enlargements of comic strip pictures that were used in the display windows of large New York department stores

13 ANDY’S THOUGHTS Warhol himself once declared that Pop artists painted pictures of things that anyone walking along Broadway'... could recognize in a split second- -comics, picnic tables, men's trousers, celebrities, shower curtains, refrigerators, Coke bottles… all things we tried so hard not to notice at all.'"

15 ANDY WARHOL’S POP ART During the 1960s, at a time when popular culture became a dominant force in both society and the arts, Andy Warhol became the guru of Pop Art.

16 ANDY WARHOL’S MEDIUMS Andy made his art with many materials: such as film, paintings, and even a magazine. His most recognizable art is made from printmaking, a process where ink is transferred from one object to another
