3 Smart Water Ads

4 Smart Water Ad 2:

5 Possible Thesis The selected Smart Water advertisements prey on American ideology regarding gender—that men should be valued for their wealth and success and that women should be valued for the ability to be objects of desire— in order to sell their products, thus reinforcing negative gender stereotypes from which these ads are then re- created.

6 Assignment: Choose an advertisement that you find rhetorically interesting. For this assignment, you will analyze how the ad intends to persuade its audience to purchase its product or service. You may want to address the ad’s target audience, its appeal to ethics, logic or emotion, as well as the imagery and diction used. Through an analysis of the ad, your goal will be to present an argumentative statement about the quality of the ad – either as an effective ad, an ineffective ad; or as a positive social influence or negative social influence, and argue your standpoint. To conclude, suggest how the ad represents our taste or culture; or make a recommendation if you believe we should reconsider our perception of these types of ads collectively.
