I can edit sentences for mistakes in mechanics and usage. I can read trace the development of characters in a drama. I can create a reflective narrative that uses effective narrative techniques, such as fresh comparisons, vivid verbs, allusions, imagery, and details. Honors English 3 September 25, 2014

You may need to use a semicolon (rather than a comma) before a coordinating conjunction (FANBOY) to join two independent clauses that contain commas AND in a series if the items in the series contain commas. ▪ Confusing:June sat with Tony, Pat, and me, and Josh sat with Flora, Zack, and Geraldo. ▪ Clear:June sat with Tony, Pat, and me; and Josh sat with Flora, Zack, and Geraldo. ▪ Searching for the house key I found a dime a nickel and a penny and John my brother found his lost watch. ▪ Eli went to the matinee with Jae, Kerry, and Sung but Josh Taylor and I preferred to go hiking. ▪ I bought my sister several gifts, including a book a skirt and a tennis racket but unfortunately I couldn’t find a present for my mother who wants an antique desk.

Journal ▪ Expanding a moment in a narrative can create suspense and imagery. It can also reveal character. ▪ Follow the examples of Michael Gomez and Nathaniel Hawthorne in chapter 12, when Dimmesdale stands on the scaffold, and expand a moment in a narrative. Describe a small moment in minute details. What effect do you hope to achieve? Once you have decided that, go on to expand your moment. Taking a drink of water/Gatorade Eating your favorite meal/candy Waking in the morning after a restful night’s sleep A memorable “game” moment

Your first essay ▪ Woo Hoo!! ▪ You only have two pieces of paper on which to write your essay.

Finish reading Act 1 of The Crucible With a small group (the shapes you received on Tuesday), work on completing the Act 1 study guide.
