1 Mrs. Wilhelm’s Kindergarten hlwilhelm@mpsomaha.org Learner Lane Writer’s Workshop September 15-19 Reminders Words of The Week This week our Heart Words have been: Iam the littletoa Name and Sound of the Letter: Mm Thank you for practicing these words at home with your little Kinderbean. The Kinderbeans are doing a great job with our daily routines. They are checking in for lunch, turning in their library books, even filling up their OWN water bottles. They are amazing! I can’t believe that it’s almost officially Fall. We do go out for recess twice a day, It’s important that your little one is prepared for this crazy Nebraska weather. Jackets in their backpacks are strongly encouraged. There is so much learning happening each day in our classroom. Thank you for working with your child at home and reading with them. Every little bit helps! Send me a note if the pick-up routine is different or changing Wear or send tennis shoes everyday for P.E. Read with your little one everyday. Return the Friday Folder every Monday. Please return the “Clip Chart” calendar folder each day Look at our class website In writer’s workshop we have been learning about writing partners and how to tell a story with pictures. Next week, we will be learning the three ways to write. Math: This week we worked on writing and counting the numbers 6, 7, and 8. We are focusing on the numbers 0-10 this quarter. Language Arts: This week we read Julius by Angela Johnson. Our Amazing Words this week were: granddaddy, sharing, protect, crate, scary, and sneaked. Our focus skills this week have been sequence and characters. This next week we will be reading Dig, Dig, Digging by Margret Mayo. It will be an exciting week learning about how machines help us. We will be classifying and categorizing. The letter will be Tt and it’s corresponding sound,

2 High School Buddies Next Wednesday our MNHS buddies will join us again! We will do a sequence activity. The children will retell the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. Unit Studies Home work Fall Party Shout Outs Save The Dates Tuesday, September 23 rd PTA Meeting at 6:30pm Friday, September 26 th at 2:45-3:45pm Our Fall Party Next Friday is our Fall party, hooray! This is a very special and fun afternoon for the kindergarteners! I am very grateful for the AWESOME organization and planning that Carrie Dayton and her team have put in. This is going to be a great time for the kids! They will LOVE IT!!! Please remember this is the Kindergartners special day. We strongly discouraged siblings attending. Don’t forget that ALL volunteers and guests MUST check into the office prior to coming to the party. What can you do at home to support your child’s learning? Here are some suggestions. Writing your name the “Kindergarten Way” Practice counting & writing numbers 0-10 Practice reading and writing our Heart Words: I am the little to a I Tracking print while reading aloud Adding details to pictures Using more then one color in our pictures Thank you to Ryker’s family for the wonderful snacks & water this week. Thank you to the Speer family for the yummy sample of what is made in a “bakery”. We loved the cookies. I’d like to say a huge “THANK YOU” to all of my wonderful volunteers…YOU ARE AMAZING! XOXO Science: This week we learned more about the sun and everything the sun gives us. At the end of the week the students made some predictions. They predicted if the light could travel through certain objects. Social Studies: This week in social studies we learned about tattling and friendship. We role played different situations that happen in kindergarten. We learned when it’s a time to “report” and when it is a “tattle”. Ask your little one about the Tattle Rules.
