It is the oldest holistic healing system. It is consist of swishing coconut oil in the mouth. For over a thousand year, it’s been considered in the Indian folk remedies. One tablespoon of coconut oil is used and swished for about 15 to 20 minutes. This helps all the bacteria that is attached to the oral cavity get dissolved into liquid oil. Oil pulling is credited for many beneficial in the oral health. It is proven that it drawn toxins from the oral mucosa and other bacteria in the mouth. It is beneficial to the human health such as it increases the metabolism. It whitens teeth, controls malodor, halt bleeding gingival tissues, hydrate the oral cavity, prevent caries and tooth sensitivity. The efficacy of oil pulling was proven to decreases Streptococcus mutans count in plaque and saliva. It was also compared to chlorhexidine mouthwash and oil pulling had a lesser count of Streptococcus mutans by using the Dentocult SM Strip mutans test. Oil pulling may have a great impact on saliva ph. Normal saliva pH is approximately 6.4 and after swishing with coconut oil the pH level is around 8.2. There are also long-term effects on oil-pulling; it is shown to be beneficial as well as health improvements. Instruction on Oil Pulling. Make sure you oil pull first thing in the morning. 1.Scoop 1 teaspoon of coconut oil and put it in your mouth 2.Tilt your chin up and slowly swish around. Makes sure it pulls through your teeth. 3.Make sure you get all the molar areas and tongue. 4.Swish around for about 10 preferably 20 minutes. 5.It should be a thing white foam when you spit it out. 6.Drink a glass of lukewarm water. Do NOT swallow the oil. It contains toxins and bacteria. Do not use oil to gargle. It should only be swish in the mouth. Important Notice. How Does Oil Pulling Work? Oil Pulling can dissolve plaque biofilm and even tartar. There are thousands of bacteria in the mouth. It creates a biofilm on the tooth surface. When the oil is swished in the mouth the bacteria attracts to the liquid oil and dissolves. Some bacteria are beneficial to our body. Excess amount of bacteria can cause problems and be harmful. Some harmful bacteria proliferate in the oral cavity. They can be a source of infection in the body organs.
