Speed Control ► Speeding is a common contributing factor of fatal and other types of accidents. ► Always obey the posted speed limits ► Know when to slow down ► Never drive faster than the weather or road conditions allow, regardless of the speed limit.

NJ Speed Limits ► Speed limits are different on all roads ► In New Jersey: ► 25 mph: School zones ► 35 mph: Suburban business districts and residential areas ► 50 mph: Non posted rural roadways ► 55 mph: Certain state highways and interstates (as posted) ► 65 mph: Certain interstate highways (as posted)

Safe Corridors Law ► NJ Speeding Law: This law doubles fines on various highways for a variety of driving offenses, including speeding and aggressive driving

Safe Passing and Road Lines ► Rules for passing all depend on the type of road you are on and the type of road lines that are marked. ► Both center lines are solid: No Passing allowed. ► One center line is broken, one is solid: Passing is allowed on the side with the broken line. ► One center line is broken: Passing is allowed on both sides

Safe Passing ► Most passing should be done on the left ► Passing on the right is allowed: (State Exam)  On roads with more than 1 lane going in the same direction  When the driver ahead is making a left turn and there is room to pass  Never pass on the right shoulder of the road, this is against the law.

Yielding the Right of Way ► Situations where you always have to yield right of way: ► Emergency Vehicles ► Pedestrians ► Other Vehicles already in the intersection (these 3 for State Exam) Right of Way

Pedestrians ► Failure to yield to peds in a crosswalk:  $100 Fine  Up to 15 days in jail  2 point license penalty Even if the crossing signal has changed, you must yield to peds who are in the crosswalk.
