Resentment increased after China lost a war to Japan (1894-1895) It began as the “Boxers” started attacking foreign compounds in modern-day Beijing A top-ranking German diplomat was killed A multinational force of 54,000 troops is sent to China Includes troops from: Japan, Russia, United Kingdom, France, U.S., Germany, Italy and Austria
