5 Sector San Francisco March 11, Port of Oakland, Mystery Sheen, FPN: A12017  Sector San Francisco received a report of an internal spill onboard the M/V MAHI MAHI at Berth 68 in the Port of Oakland.  A slick of black oil and rainbow sheen was observed in the vicinity of the vessel alongside the berth.  No source of the slick was found.  A federal project was opened and National Response Corporation Environmental Services was hired to remove the oil using pads and sweep.  06 drums of oiled sorbents were recovered. No enforcement action. Federal Case

6 Sector San Francisco  House Boat was found submerged at moorings.  Owner hired Pacific Marine Salvage to conduct pollution removal operations.  April 3: IMD discovered that the vessel was still discharging product and opened the fund.  Ballard Diving was hired to remove remaining fuel/product from vessel.  Total product removed from vessel: 885 gallons. LOW issued. March 28, Moss Landing, M/V LOYAL II, FPN: A12019 Federal Case

7 Sector San Francisco April 25, Bair Island Aquatic Center, S/V MYSTIC PUFFIN, FPN: A12020  S/V MYSTIC PUFFIN sank at the dock of the Bair Island Aquatic Center in the Redwood Creek.  Case was federalized and Ballard Diving and Salvage was contracted.  Approximately 25 gallons of gasoline were removed from the vessel.  LOW issued. Federal Case

8 Sector San Francisco May 9, Monterey Harbor, F/V SAINT JOSEPH II, FPN: A12023  Began taking on water in Monterey Harbor. Attempts to pump off water were unsuccessful.  Potential on board was 100 gallons of diesel.  Monterey Divers was hired by the RP.  Ballard Diving and Salvage was hired to properly clean boom from Coast Guard response trailer used during the response.  LOW issued. Federal Case

9 Sector San Francisco May 15, Limantour Beach, Point Reyes, F/V BARBARA FAYE  F/V BARBARA FAYE ran aground at Limantour Beach.  Case was federalized and Parker Diving and Salvage was hired to remove product from the vessel.  250 gallons of diesel and 30 gallons of hydraulic oil was removed.  The National Park Service then hired Parker Diving and Salvage to remove the vessel from the beach. Federal Case

10 Sector San Francisco May 22, Beaver Slough, Thornton, Pleasure Craft, FPN: A12022  P/C CF5541BS was reported to have allied with the Blossom Road Bridge in Beaver Slough (an environmentally sensitive site).  Global was hired to conduct an assessment.  Global determined the fuel to be gasoline, plugged the fuel vents and closed the cross-connect valves. Maximum potential was not determined.  San Joaquin county will oversee the removal of the vessel. NOV issued. Federal Case

11 Sector San Francisco March 2012, Pier 45/Inner Lagoon  Multiple reports of oil in water  Notice of Federal Interest issued to restaurants and Port of San Francisco  Suspected point of discharge is leaky pipes under pier.  1 employee admitted to dumping cooking oil waste down floor drain.  Port is working on fixing pipes.  San Francisco Water Power Sewer conducting dye tests to determine point of discharge.  Enforcement action pends. Case of Interest

12 Sector San Francisco March 18, M/V CHALEUR  140 ft prior Canadian minesweeper  On 18 March the Port of San Francisco notified the Coast Guard that the M/V CHALEUR was taking on water due to a collision with a construction barge at pier 36.  Total product on board: ~5,000 gallons.  Administrative Order issued:  Marine surveyor report assessing structural integrity and stability  Provide soundings of oil/fuel tanks on board  Develop a response strategy in the event of a discharge  All requirements of Administrative Order were satisfied on April 16 Case of Interest
