2 What does my child need to know? *Basic Counting Skills as well as number sense- *How to write their 1 st name *Recognize some letters(start with their name) *colors and shapes *follow directions *positional words *snap, zip, button, cut, glue and restroom *work for 15 minutes without interuption

3 What will my child’s day look like? Morning Time/Circle Time/Calendar Time Daily 5 :Literacy Block Math Specials/Enrichment Lunch Restroom Rest Buses/Pickup

5 What are the supplies needed and what are they used for? Kindergarten Supply List 1-Large Backpack (No Wheels) 4 Boxes of 24 count Crayons 5 Wide ruled Spiral Notebooks ( red, blue, yellow, green and purple preferred ) 10 +Glue Sticks 1 Primary handwriting tablet 4 Pocket folders with prongs ( red, blue, yellow,and green preferred) 1 Zipper pencil pouch 24 pencils ( not mechanical...to be used over the course of the year) 6 Pink erasers 1 Pair of child safety scissors ( Fiskar preferred) **Change of clothes in a gallon zipper bag to keep in backpack in case of an accident.

6 How can I help my child be successful? *Check your child’s binder nightly *Assist with homework *Attend all parent teacher conferences *Talk to your child *YOU are the key ingredient in your child’s success *We need you as a Partner

7 Talk to your Child about Kindergarten ♥ Share feelings about kindergarten, address child’s fears (if any) ♥ Be excited about your child’s entry into kindergarten ♥ Point out schools in neighborhood, especially the one he/she will attend if you know it ♥ Have a countdown activity marking the beginning of kindergarten – for example, mark days on a calendar to cross off ♥ Talk about what to expect – for example, bigger classes, fewer adults, more independent work, etc. ♥ Two weeks before school starts, begin practicing the right time for bedtime, waking up in the morning, dressing, and eating breakfast, so that your child will be ready when it really is the first day of school Portland Research and Training Center

8 Morning Routine You may bring your child in the first day to walk him/her through the morning routine. After the first day, we ask that you drop your child off at the door.

10 Picking up your child Please pick him/her up by 2:45 in the cafeteria. If you need to check your child out, please do so by 2:15.***Early Check outs and tardies may count against attendance*see OCS policy ***Please do not come to the room for afternoon pick-up.

11 Bus and Pickups For the first two weeks of school, your child must wear their tags that identify if they are bus riders or pick-up. Your child will be accompanied to the bus lot.

12 Volunteer Policy We absolutely love volunteers! We will not be calling you in until the end of September. This will give our children time to adjust! You can be fingerprinted at the county office on Wednesday mornings. We will need helpers to come work in class or groups, and even volunteers who can do other jobs out of their homes. Please let your teacher know if you are interested!

13 Lunch You are welcome to join your child for lunch. We once again respectively request that this begins at the end of September, giving us time to adjust. Our lunch time is 11:03-11:27am. Cost of Lunch is Student, full paying $1.75 Student, reduced.40 Adult 2.50 Breakfast Student, full paying $1.00 Student, reduced.30
