5 UNCLASSIFIED WATER RELIEF S&T TARGETS PROVIDING SAFE FRESHWATER FOR DISASTER RELIEF Provide Water Through Recovery  Sustainable production and clean distribution  Cost effective and affordable for local authorities (depends on context/recovery phase)  Consignable hardware, training, and support for transition to NGOs or local government  Rugged design and operation  High specific output (inputs: mass, volume, energy) Factors for Immediate Water Resources  Adaptable to widely different scenarios (60- 70% of possible scenarios)  Transportable and easily distributed (lightweight, air and manually transportable)  Small systems (weight & volume efficient)  “Low tech” – easy for disaster victims to use  Cost Effective to maximize distribution  Drinking water prioritized over hygiene  Minimize fuel, consumables, training required
