2 Tell Us Once – because your time matters Tell Us Once ‘Tell us Once’ is a major programme, being led by DWP on behalf of Government as a whole, to transform the way in which people can tell Government (central and local) about changes to their circumstances. At its heart – as it says on the tin – is the proposition that people should only have to tell us things – like a birth or death – once and we will make sure that information reaches all the Government Departments and Agencies that need to know. That sounds an utterly obvious thing to do – and it is – but making it a reality is very challenging.” Sir Leigh Lewis, Permanent Secretary Department for Work and Pensions

7 Tell Us Once – because your time matters Pathfinder results Reduction in designed contacts – 7 on average Cumulative take up 56% (90%+ in some areas) 14,000+ citizens have used Tell Us Once A speedy receipt of correct and complete data leading to cost savings Some improvement in back office processing Links to performance measures – for example NI14, PSA, CAA. Increased partnership working 99% of responses to the customer survey have been positive 97% of staff agreed or strongly agreed that they were making a difference

8 Tell Us Once – because your time matters Implementation Assumptions The deployment window has been calculated at 12 months (April 2010-March 2011). Each local authority has a 2 month planning period and 3 months to deliver against plan. Roll–out will be geographical, expanding from the existing pathfinder areas. 100% local authority coverage. Pension, Disability and Carers Service are signed up to deliver the telephony channel on bereavement on behalf of the whole of Government. A strategic IT solution will be available by 2010. All local authorities are on Government Connect. Legal areas have been assured and agreed.

9 Tell Us Once – because your time matters Implementation Manual This will be a practical tool to assist partners in the implementation of a Tell Us Once capability into their organisation. It will: act as a reference guide containing advice and products for Implementation Managers to support them through the process. be based on experience from the pilots and pathfinders. be tested in the live environment prior to national rollout. provide a chronological list of suggested activities required to implement Tell Us Once. be continually revised and improved throughout the implementation period incorporating lessons learnt. be available electronically to project managers and be hosted on the Communities of Practice.
