4. What courses will my child be taking as a 7 th grader at CMMS? Advisory Writing Reading Math Science Contemporary Global Issues (CGI) Health / Physical Education EXPLORE (1per semester) Art & Communication Arts/Drama, Spanish I (CSK Students) Band —Early Bird Program

5. Team Structure at CMMS Three teams: 7A-Draco, 7B-Scorpious, 7C—Hercules 5 teachers on each: Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading and Writing Approximately 140 students per team Students are heterogeneously grouped Honors and intervention courses are available on all teams

6. Assessment & Grading Information In addition to their regular course load: 7 th Graders will take the following school-wide assessments: –NWEA/MAP (September, January) Tested areas: Reading, Math & English/Language Arts –Explore (December) –PARCC (March & May) Progress Reports (interim) and Report Cards (quarter finals) are sent home once per quarter. Honor Roll is calculated quarterly. Certificates are given to students.

7. Team Meetings Teachers, counselors and administrators meet daily. Team meetings are a designated time for teachers to work together on: –Data analysis and instructional planning –Interdisciplinary planning –Action plans for individual students –Meeting/conferencing/working with students –Conducting parent conferences

8. Academic concerns? How can you help your child succeed at CMMS? Check our online grade book weekly! Make sure your child: –Is using his/her planner to write down assignments and important due dates –Brings supplies/assignments to school on a daily basis –Does his/her homework and is prepared to complete class assignments –Is in school daily and on time Email or call your child’s teacher with your questions or concerns. Make contact with your child’s teacher or Guidance Counselor to set up a team meeting.

10. Student/Parent Handbook Will be distributed and reviewed with students during the first few days of school. Electronic copy will be located on the school website. Formal source for school related information, procedures, & rules. All students/families must sign and return a completed handbook verification form at the start of the school year

11. Student Discipline Behavior management begins at the classroom level. Teacher discipline may include: –Teacher Warnings –Parent Notification –Detentions (Lunch & After School) –Mandatory team meetings/teacher-student conferences Administrative discipline supports the expectations of classroom teachers, and may include (but not limited to): –Mediation –Parent contact/Conferences/Meetings –Administrative Warnings –Administrative Detention –Mandatory participation in programs/interventions –Suspension (ISS/OSS)

12. Technology & Acceptable Use We take everyone’s online safety very seriously! You will be asked to sign an acceptable use agreement. Be aware of your child’s online activities: texting, social networking sites (Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat), etc. Monitor your child’s phone for evidence of sexting and harassing texts. Inappropriate online behavior could result in severe consequences from the school.

13. Student ID Cards All students are provided with a student ID card ID’s MUST be on and around your neck ALL DAY Students must have ID card to purchase a lunch in the cafeteria and in the media center to check out a book. The ID is used as a debit card in the cafeteria Replacement ID cards/lanyards are $5.00

14. Transportation The front of school must remain open for busses. Parents are not permitted to park in the front (East side) of the building Walkers and car riders should enter/exit through Door 16 daily. Parent pick-up line forms along Blackhawk/Highland Ave. (West side). Students must ride assigned bus and get on and off bus at designated stop. Activity Bus is available for students who participate in after school activities –Monday through Thursday, leaves CMMS at 4:15 –Car riders  Your ride must be here prior to busses departing.

15. Alternate Transportation Students getting a ride from someone other than their parent/guardian must have a note from both parties involved. Notes must be submitted to the Ms. Krug in the AP’s office. Busses are at capacity and cannot accommodate additional students.

School Security All doors are locked at all times Buzzer system & security cameras Visitors must sign in at front desk—ALL visitors will be scanned using V-Soft Technology Students/Staff are required to wear ID’s at all time Security Officers on-site Safety plan/safety training and practice drills are conducted throughout the year

17. Things To Know… Attendance  the law requires your child to be here daily. PE Uniform  needs to be worn daily! School Supplies  check our website—teachers will let your child know when to bring them in! Student Schedule  9 periods daily: 8 classes & lunch Obligations  physicals, library books, borrowed clothes, lunch charges, textbooks Lockers  should NOT be shared with anyone. That includes gym lockers and combinations. Interested in helping out on field trips  need to complete a background check and go through our Board Approval Process

18. Things To Know… Homework  will be given on a daily basis REQUIRED Summer Reading  should be completed and handed in to your reading teacher by September 5 th –READING  Minimum expectation for CMMS: 4 core novels and 4 independent novels REQUIRED Math packet  should be completed and handed in to your math teacher by August 29 th Participation in extra-curricular sports  sports physicals are REQUIRED before student can try out. Ineligible List  students with D’s or F’s are NOT permitted to participate in any extra-curricular activities

19. Things to Know… School wide dress code is outlined in the student/parent handbook. Repeated dress code violations = disciplinary consequences. Unsupervised students are not permitted to stay after school. Electronics  CMMS will not be held responsible for any personal property that is lost or stolen— keep your valuables at home! All electronic devices are to be turned off and kept in the locker throughout the school day.
