2 Overview Explain who I am To look at the TeesRep project at Teesside University – What has happened so far? – Plans for the future – The benefits it will provide To highlight some useful advice learned along the way To provide an opportunity for any questions

3 Who am I? Background in HE libraries and subject work Current role at Teesside University – Senior Information Officer for Electronic Library: – managing the digitisation service, under the CLA’s Higher Education Scanning and Photocopying Licence – appointed as Project Officer for Teesside University’s institutional repository, TeesRep, in January 2009 Attended RSP Winter School in February 2009

4 Teesside University’s Institutional Repository An open access digital archive of published research completed at Teesside University – A mixture of full-text items and metadata only records – Full text items will not include pre-prints for the moment – Contains RAE 2008 research items and PhD Theses

5 The TeesRep Project TeesRep – Hosted by BioMed Central TeesRep Pilot Project Phase: SharePoint Project SiteSharePoint Project Site – Project Plan – Project Team and Steering Group – Project Documentation – Issues so far: timescale / scope Aiming to go live in 2010 – project phase will end & TeesRep to be incorporated into L&IS operations.

6 What next for TeesRep? Advocacy – communication strategy Clean up of RAE 2008 imported records New assistant to be appointed To add non RAE research items using proposed submission process To go live & register with open access directories

7 Benefits of TeesRep 1.For the University Showcase and preserve the intellectual output of Teesside University Raise profile of University’s research and researchers Provide support for the Research Excellence Framework (REF)

8 Benefits of TeesRep 2.For Researchers Showcase their research Increase citations Provide access to full range of university’s research activity (including doctoral theses) Demonstrate that all research produced at the University is valued

9 Benefits of TeesRep 3.For the Wider Community Makes educational resources for all openly available, rather than restricting access Preserves research for use by others Raises profile of open access publishing, and routes to open access materials – will hopefully become more widespread

10 Support for Repositories TeesRep will be part of a worldwide network SHERPA – partnership assisting with open access repositories SHERPA RSP – Repositories Support Project RSP OpenDOAR & ROAR- directories of open access repositories OpenDOARROAR DRIVER – international partnership to build an infrastructure for research information across Europe DRIVER
