5 Vocabulary Today we are going to combine sentences using conjunctions. Combine – to put together + = Conjunctions – words that combine a sentence are conjunctions and include and, or, but and so.

6 Conjunctions AND- joins two similar ideas together. BUT - joins two contrasting ideas together. OR - joins two alternative ideas together. SO - show that the second ideas is the result of the first.

8 Compound Sentences A compound sentence is made up of two or more simple sentences, usually joined by a comma and the conjunction and, or, but or so. My dog wagged his tail. My dog barked at the neighbor. Compound sentence: My dog wagged his tail, and barked at the neighbor. Steps 1.Read the two sentences 2.Find the common subject or predicate. 3.Pick the best conjunction to combine the two sentences.
