Domaine Serene An Artistic Expression of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay

Winery Vision and Strategy VISION To be globally recognized as an iconic quality leader of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, rivaling the world’s finest wines. STRATEGY Focus relentlessly on the continuous pursuit of quality in everything that we do from farming and winemaking to customer service, distribution and hospitality. Profit generated by the business will be re-invested into continuing to raise the bar for wine quality and recognition. James Suckling

The Story of Ken and Grace Evenstad The American Dream Ken and Grace Evenstad purchased 42 acres of land in the Dundee Hills of Oregon in 1989 with the mission to produce consistently exquisite Pinot Noir. Over the years the Evenstads have increased their original 42 acre property to over 700 acres, 220 of which are planted to Pinot Noir and Dijon-clone Chardonnay. Their passion for quality in the vineyards and in the bottle is unwavering. Seeing a need for a beautiful, spacious place for Oregon wine industry events, and to achieve the highest quality, in 2001 the Evenstads invested in construction of a 5 level state of the art gravity flow winery in the Dundee Hills. The Evenstads are committed to their iconic wines and have long term sustainability at the forefront of their future plans.

Sustainable Farming Practices Domaine Serene’s Sustainable Farming Practices program allows the Evenstads to manage their vineyards to maximize grape quality while at the same time minimizing risks to farmland and the environment. Domaine Serene’s sustainable farming practices include the following: Managing Soil Health: Nutrients are replenished with a variety of cover crops, green manures, and tilling practices. Limiting use of Natural Resources: All of Domaine Serene’s vineyards are ‘dry farmed’, irrigation is not used to supply grapevines with water. Integrated Pest Management: Reduce the use of chemical applications and sprays in the vineyard.

Our Vineyards The Evenstad Estate was purchased in 1989 and ranges in elevation from 520-800 feet. The seven vineyards on the estate face east, south and west. Jerusalem Hill Estate is in the Eola Hills and planted to 55 acres of Pinot Noir. The estate is planted on sedimentary soil and is 200-300 feet in elevation. Winery Hill Estate is planted to 20 acres of Dijon clone Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and ranges from 800-850 feet in elevation. Two Barns Estate is planted to 31 acres of Pinot noir of and 2 acres of Dijon Clone Chardonnay and is situated between 300 and 400 feet in elevation.

Winemaker Erik Kramer Erik Kramer has worked at several acclaimed wineries in New Zealand and Washington before he began making wine in Oregon’s Willamette Valley in 2004. Erik joined the Domaine Serene team as winemaker in 2011. His efforts are aimed at maximizing the quality of individual blocks of Pinot noir and Chardonnay in order to produce wines that meet Domaine Serene’s stylistic goals. Erik is very passionate about Domaine Serene’s Chardonnay program and enjoys working with our Chardonnay plantings that produce excellent wines. Erik’s natural scientific curiosity drives him to develop various winemaking and viticulture experiments that are aimed at maximizing wine quality.

A Celebrated Past meets an even Brighter Future! New Vineyards and Chardonnay Expansion Domaine Serene purchased the Abbey Oaks vineyard in the Chehalem Mountains to 21 acres of Pinot Noir. We will see the first fruit from this vineyard in 2016. Domaine Serene purchased the Triple Crown vineyard located across from the winery in the Dundee Hills. This vineyard will be an important component as we expand our Chardonnay program. The vineyard will be planted this year to 11 acres of Chardonnay and 6 acres to Pinot Noir.

The Domaine Serene Difference Place, People, Practices, Persistence Our 5 level gravity winemaking facility allows for the most gentle handling of Pinot Noir through the winemaking process. Our dedication to quality begins in the vineyards with extremely low yields under 2 tons per care and continues upon arrival to the winery where the grapes are carefully hand sorted on our sorting line. Blending is the hallmark of the Domaine Serene winemaking philosophy. Our over 200 pinot noir lots are kept separate from hand sorting, through fermentation and during barrel aging until they come together in the final blend before bottling. Each vineyard’s terroir and unique characteristic result in a complex and distinctive pinot noir that it uniquely Domaine Serene. We age our wines in the finest French oak barrels for 12-18 months giving the wines structure and complexity that will allow them to evolve and age for 10-15 years. We bottle age our wines 1-2 years before release to ensure the wine is approachable when the wine is enjoyed on premise. Domaine Serene continues to be a leader of the industry by producing unique wines such as Coeur Blanc, a Bandol-style Rosè, and our vision of the perfect Pinot Noir; the Monogram.
