1 How do plants grow from seeds?

2 Seeds  Seeds come in many sizes, shapes, and colors.  They can all grow a new plant.

3 Parts of a Seed  Seed Coat: is the outside covering of the seed. It protects the seed.  Seed Leaf: is the inside part of the seed. It contains stored food.  Developing Plant: is the new plant.

4 Scattering Seeds  Some seeds fall to the ground around the parent plant.  Other seeds are scattered. To scatter means to spread in an irregular way!

5  Some are scattered by the wind.

6  Other seeds are scattered by water. Lily seeds float in lakes and streams

7  Animals can also scatter seeds.
