Myths and Misconceptions in Alberta Myth: If I do the IB programme will my chances for admission be compromised? Fact: “If you’re in... IB (or thinking of going into it), there is no systemic evidence to suggest that you are putting yourself at a disadvantage for grades or admission…” Source: https://profbillanderson.wordpress.com/2014/09/04/is- ib-worth-it/https://profbillanderson.wordpress.com/2014/09/04/is- ib-worth-it/

Universally recognized The IB Diploma has earned universal reputation for rigorous assessment, giving students access to the top colleges and universities in the world. Admission officers are increasingly looking for other evidence that a student will succeed in the university such as exposure to quality curriculum, research abilities, international outlook and social service.

University Preparedness The IB curriculum equips students with the tools needed to succeed in higher education, such as self-confidence, preparedness, research skills, organisational skills and being actively engaged in own learning. These are skills that all universities want students to have for continued success in coursework.

Tips from Parents… Ap or IB? IB has significantly more emphasis on writing than AP. The IB exams, unlike AP, rarely have multiple choice questions. Students must answer in essay form. If you are going to apply to a selective university, the IB diploma shows you are challenging yourself in all subject areas, something admissions officers will consider over a selection of AP courses. There are variances in college credit for AP and IB courses. For example, at Stanford, the IB and AP credit lists are mostly the same, with language, math and physics getting the exact same credit. However you can get more credit for IB Chemistry than AP Chemistry. Please check university admission policies.more credit for IB ChemistryAP Chemistry http://www.davidsongifted.org/db/Articles_id_10701.aspx http://blog.prepscholar.com/whats-better-for-you-ib-or-ap http://www.theprospect.net/to-ib-or-not-to-ib-international-baccalaureate-students-tell-all-2911

IB is More than Exams... asks students to inquire, to reflect, to take risks, to communicate effectively expects student to learn how to research and write academic papers requires student to move beyond their classroom experience into the community and to reflect (CAS) challenges students to be critical thinkers who embody the skills and knowledge to be a lifelong learner
