4. www.dot.state.pa.us 16 States Require Vehicle Safety Inspections In April of 1928, Governor John Fisher proclaimed setting aside the month of April as Safety Month for the citizens of Pennsylvania. As such, citizens were asked to voluntarily have their cars checked for faulty equipment. During this 30 day period, it was disclosed that of all cars inspected, approximately 700,000 vehicles were unsafe for highway use. Based on these findings, Pennsylvania introduced a bi- annual safety inspection in May of 1929. Pennsylvania is proud of its comprehensive inspection program covering most every vehicle type on the roads. The consumer benefits with safer roads and higher vehicle residual value. We all benefit with fewer vehicular deaths per miles driven than those jurisdictions without an inspection program 4
