Union Jack consists of three crosses of three patron saints : Red on a white background is the cross of St. George - the patron saint of England ( worshiped April 23 ) White, diagonal cross on a blue background This cross of St. Andrew - the patron saint of Scotland (worshiped on November 30) Red, diagonal cross on a white background This cross of St. Patrick - the patron saint of Ireland (worshiped March 17)

5 Anthem of United Kingdom God Save the Queen is a British patriotic song of unknown authorship, which is the national anthem of Great Britain and its former colonies. At a time when the British monarch is the King, the song is performed as God Save the King (as it was originally).

6 Political system The UK is a parliamentary monarchy with a government responsible to the parliament. The capital city is London. The current British monarch is Queen Elizabeth II, who sat on the throne in 1952, and was crowned in 1953. ^ Queen Elizabeth II

8 Anglicanism In 1534 Henry VIII freed the Church of England from the Holy See announcing his head, and thereby forming a new religion Christianity - Anglicanism. Defeating in 1588 the Spanish Great Armada strengthened the political position of England and created the basis for its sea power. ^Henry VIII

10 Monument to the Great Fire of London Monument to the Great Fire of London called simply Monument. It is the highest freestanding stone column in the world. It commemorates the Great Fire of London which took place in 1666. Located in the City. It was designed by Christopher Wren and Robert Hooke. On the top 62 meter column is gilded sculpture of flaming urn. To the top of monument leads a spiral staircase, which have 311 steps

11 Science and Education In the UK there are a lot of universities, among others : University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, University College London, Imperial College London, King's College London. From the UK comes from many scientists such as: Isaac Newton, James Watt, Charles Darwin, Alexander Fleming and Graham Bell. 12 Interesting facts In 1722 after secret negotiations between Spain, the Vatican and Polish, 16 year- old Klementyna Sobieska, who was Polish, married 30 years older James Stuart - the uncrowned king of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland to strengthen the Catholic influence, in a Protestant country. But she never sat on the throne, and she's never been in London, gave birth to two sons. She died, when she was 29 years old suffering from scurvy. London was the first city in which appeared the smog. The first time the phenomenon has been observed in the mid-seventeenth century. In London, uses more than 200 languages! In the UK it is the same people as rats, nearly 60 million The British are the most obese nation in Europe - 22.3% of men and 23% of women are obese.
