3 Abbreviations SE-Scientific Editor EEIC-Executive Editor-in-Chief JMS-Journal of Mountain Science ED-Editor Notes For the account information, User ID is your email address, password can be set by clicking the link in the mail to notify your account that the system sends to your email box or can be reset by inputting your email address in the Password Help.

4 Account management : Log in Manuscript Center for JMS is on: http://mc03.manuscriptcentral.com/jmsjournal. You can input your User ID &Password and click on the Log In button. http://mc03.manuscriptcentral.com/jmsjournal

5 Account management: Forgot Password? If you don’t know your User ID or Password, click on the “Password Help”. You will be prompted to type in your email address and select Go. Your User ID & Password will be emailed to you immediately.

6 Account management : Change User ID/Password & Account Information -1 Once you have logged in, you can click on the Edit Account link in the upper right side of the menu bar to change your User ID, Password, or other account information.

7 Account management: Change User ID/Password & Account Information-2 When you login for the first time, you may be prompted to fill in the remaining required fields for your account. Simply go through the “Edit My Account” Screens, fill in the remaining required fields, and click on the Finish button on the last screen.

8 Main menu After logging in, the Welcome page opens. Select the link to enter the SE Center.

9 Dashboard You can select “Scientific Editor Lists” or “Quick Search” to find the manuscript.

10 Scientific Editor Lists The “2” in red circle indicates that the manuscript numbers awaiting your comments. Click on “History” you can see that all manuscripts Plagiarism Checking records (shown next slide), you can also see the report from another gate.

11 Plagiarism Checking History If you know the manuscript ID, you can click on “View the Originality Report” and know the similarity index with each literature (see next slide).

13 Select the Take Action button to view the SE recommendation.

14 SE Center Overview Clicking on take action will take you to the present screen containing three tabs in the left. From here you can access links to all the manuscript files, details about the manuscript submission.

15 SE Center Overview Select the tab labeled “Manuscript Information”, you will see links to view “Author-Supplied Data”, “Plagiarism Check” and so on.

16 SE Center Overview Select the tab labeled “Audit Trail”, you will see that the processing trails of this manuscript.

17 SE Center Overview Select the tab labeled “Manuscript Files”, you will see all files about this manuscript: title page, main text, figures and so on.

18 SE Center Overview Viewing Proofs View proofs by selecting the HTML or PDF icons in the summary header. In most cases the journal allows you to view both, along with the abstract. Performing External Searches Selecting allows you to search external databases such as PubMed, HighWire, Google, Web of Science, etc for the author, title, keywords and more.

19 Plagiarism Check(1) When you select “Scroll To Plagiarism Check” in Manuscript Information screen, you can see the manuscript plagiarism checking.

20 Plagiarism Check(2) View the Plagiarism Check You can click on “View the Originality Report”, it will help you complete Initial Review Form.

21 SCORING & SUBMITTING(1) Please review and score the manuscript. The form contains three parts: “Reject”, “Revision” and “Sent out for peer- review”.

22 SCORING & SUBMITTING(2) When you select “Reject”, you have to click the listed reasons or write down other possible reasons. Pls click all the possible reasons to reject the manuscript.

23 SCORING & SUBMITTING(3) When clicking other reasons, you must clearly write out in Comments ( shown the next slide).

24 SCORING & SUBMITTING(4) When you want to write to the executive editor in chief (EEIC) besides the comments you make, you can write here.

25 SCORING & SUBMITTING(5) Select the two options are based on the Plagiarism Check Report.

26 SCORING & SUBMITTING(6) If this paper only requires minor revisions instead of major revision, you can click “Sent out for peer-review”. You can send this paper directly into the next process to EEIC.

27 SCORING & SUBMITTING(7) Select Save as Draft to save your work without yet sending it to the EEIC. Select Submit to save Initial Review Form and send it to the EEIC.
