27 Are you a caring and compassionate person interested in helping others? Peer Mentors are intended to do some of the most important work in the school. Their aim is to develop friendships with Grade 9’sand any new and International students to make the transition to RSS an easy and positive experience. Peer Mentors will work one-on-one with these students during their assigned block in the Career/Counselling Center. To equip Peer Mentors for this role, they are taught interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and mediation skills and assertiveness training. Applicants should be outstanding citizens with a great work ethic and should have the ‘courage to be kind’ in all situations. In order to help others students must be “well” themselves. Due to limited space in the program, an application to this course and references will be required. A mandatory training retreat is scheduled for September. Peer Mentorship 11/12 An application is required for this course See you counsellor

28 This is a youth led education program which aims to teach Resiliency Skills. They reach out to large groups of youth with a message about coping, hope, and resilience. The Wellness Team is comprised of four groups: Lifesavers, Beyond the Hurt/Healthy Youth Relationship, Amicia, and the Diversity group. The group meets once a week during lunch to plan events. It is a linear 4 credit course. Lifesavers – Awareness to mental health/wellness. Planning the school wide Mental Wellness assembly is one of the many activities of this group. Beyond the Hurt and Healthy Youth Relationships – they are trained to become Youth Facilitators who then deliver bully awareness workshops to SMS and RMS students. Amicia – their aim is to unite RMS and SMS girls with a network of support. Diversity – they strive to create an all inclusive safe space for ALL students. What is the commitment? They must attend the weekly lunch hour class. They must commit to one of the above groups which means that when organizing an event they would have to meet outside the regular time table. Due to nature of this program, an application to this course and references are required. Wellness Team 10/11/12
